COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We toned down the hops a bit to allow cocoa nibs to contribute some pleasing bitterness, while vanilla notes from the oak combine with the cocoa to create an aroma and flavor akin to a gourmet chocolate bar. A dash of cayenne keeps things lively, adding just a bit of heat to the finish. A Yeti for summer? Hell yes.

22oz bottle. Nice, thin brown head. Little lace. Black color. Nice, satisfying dark chocolate aroma. Good bitter sweet taste. Another great take on the classic Yeti. It’s hard to find a good chocolate stout that actually has a satisfying chocolate flavor, but this one delivers. Great to sip.

Strong chocolate, cocoa smell. Very good chocolate taste. Dark color with medium tan head that lasts. Finish is bitter and chocolate. Finish is too much for me but otherwise a good beer.

22oz bottle poured into porter glass. Bottled date March 28 2012. Aroma: chocolate, coffee, malt, Cayenne pepper, oak, dark fruits, soy sauce, smoke Appearance: pitch black pour with very little head. head was a dark milk chocolatey brown. very tightly packed small bubbles with large bubbles in the center of the glass. Doesnt lace glass at all. Taste: medium sweet, mild bitter. Lots of dark semi sweet chocolate. just a bit of coffee. Palate: medium body, creamy texture, average to soft carbonation. finish is medium bitter and mild sour with a medium to intense burn. I believe this burn is the peppers and not the alcohol. Oak and coffee is coming through a bit as well in the aftertaste. The peppers linger on the tongue for a while. Overall: Wow! I like this one alot. I rated the plain Oak Aged Yeti a few months ago and thought it was barely drinkable. I am going to give that one another chance. The burn from the cayenne peppers in this is very well done. Its noticeable but not overwhelming. It slowly builds with intensity as I drink. Great flavor and extremely well balanced. I am going to pickup a couple more bottles of this.

Bottle pours almost black (and thick) with huge, creamy brown head. Aroma of roasted coffee and wood ash. Flavor dominated by espresso, roasted malts, charcoal, and hints of bitter sweet chocolate. Smooth and creamy with a slightly bitter finish with wood notes that linger longingly on your tongue.

As much as I live the espresso, I think I like this more. Deep, dark chocolate nose. The palate is a full bodied melange of mocha and roasted nuts with just enough carbonation to keep this balanced. Long finish with bittersweet baking chocolate. Incredible stout.

Originally reviewed: 10/14/09. Bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a deep dirty motor oil black with a massive mocha colored head on top. Excellent retention and there is plenty of sticky lacing all over the glass. Smells very creamy and sweet. There’s plenty of chocolate in the scent along with some fresh bread. The mouth is very creamy and smooth. Plenty of coating velvet feel in this one. Carbonation level is moderate. This is a little more boozy than expected. There’s a definitive chocolate flavor but there’s also a slight sour note and a mellow bready finish. This is decently balanced. This was good, but I liked the Espresso version better.
