COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We toned down the hops a bit to allow cocoa nibs to contribute some pleasing bitterness, while vanilla notes from the oak combine with the cocoa to create an aroma and flavor akin to a gourmet chocolate bar. A dash of cayenne keeps things lively, adding just a bit of heat to the finish. A Yeti for summer? Hell yes.

bottle bought at Lucas Liquor in Kansas City. pours black as night with a nice chocolate milk colored head. Aroma of cocoa and toasty oak. taste is bitter like a bar of dark cocoa. lingers on the palate and continues with a touch of coffee and some oak. taste is great with a long finish. well done, a very elegant brew

A gorgeous creamy roasted peanut colored head is the intro for a unique and refreshing impy experience. Aroma is heavy roast malt, light coffee with milk and a sharp sugary depth of layered sweetness that smells like multiple chocolates at once. Taste of caramel, bitter sweet chocolate, and finishes with a peppery bite that replaces the usual alcoholic bitterness of heavy stouts. The real hit though, was the slighty salty, smokey presence at the aroma and flavor of this beer, very unique and welcome. The palate is syrupy smooth and somewhere between medium and heavy bodied all the way through to the finish. Awesome brew, glad to have two. Thanks Great Divide. 2009 22 oz.

Pours black as downtown and thick as a 700 pound woman. Thick and syrupy with not much head to speak of. Main aromas are of cocoa, some vanilla, some wood and some bourbon. The taste is similar . and Ill go out on a limb here, but I taste a touch of blueberry in this. The chili pepper notes are wonderful in the finish and make me wish I had many more bottles of this fine beer. There is a slight alcohol burn as it makes its way down...Holy shit is this good. The palate is smooth and rich. The first taste I had was ok....but as it warms up to the right temperature, it becomes increasingly one of my favorites.Imperial stout on a 95 degree in the shade day? Hell yes.

On tap at the brewery on 7/18/09: Pours jet black with heavy mocha head. Distinct cocoa aroma with molasses hiding behind it. Very sweet chocolate on the tongue. Then, the dark molasses and oak flavor hits second. Then, this finishes with a very slow cayenne burn. Not too full bodied and gains increasing complexity with warmth. Note: this had significantly more cayenne than when I tried it from the bottle a month earlier. I’m anxious to let a few of these bottles age for a few years and see how it develops.

Bottle pours deep brown/black with a dense and rocky beige head. Aroma is milk and dark chocolate with some supporting roast malt and oak to round it out. Flavor shows the same with some additional vanilla and the cayenne is definately present and contributes and interesting dynamic to this beer. It’s probably one of those love it or hate it type things but seems to be working for me. Overall body is full, moderately sweet, and finishes bitter/spicy. Interesting and a good way to finish off my yeti session.

22 oz. bottle, pours pitch black with a beautiful dark brown head. Aroma of boldly dark roasted malt, light chocolate, espresso, some smokiness, wood and some burnt malt. Flavour begins with light chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla notes and oak, and finishes with dry wood, smokiness, cayenne peppers. Truly an exquisite brew.

Appearance: might be the darkest beer I’ve ever seen. Head is like beautiful mud.

Aroma: mostly dark chocolate, but not as intense as other chocolate stouts. Noticeable hops imparts some citrus.

Taste: delicious dark chocolate not overdone. Nice gentle bitterness with a touch of pepper in the aftertaste. Oak aging gives a slightly smokey and woody taste in the finish. Robust but smooth.

Drink: for 9.5% ABV it tastes and feels like something much lighter. You can gulp it or sip it. Booze is well masked.

Mouthfeel: not too thick, not too thin; not too lively, but not flat.

Overall: very impressive. Not the best chocolate stout I’ve ever had but a damn good one. Highly recommended.

Pours a pitchy deep brown, and a nice tan head results from an aggressive pour. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla and a touch of smoke from the barrel. Taste is outstanding. Slight sweetness, dark chocolate and fruit, hint of vanilla and smoke. Finishes without any lingering aftertaste and exceedingly drinkable.

65 cl. bottle sampled @ RBWG 2012 – thx to Benzai – impy black with a small mocha head, lots of bitter chocolate in this one with some thick malts underneath, roasted coffee, nice wood (clearly present), serious bitterness but in a nice way, hint of toffee, hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste, hint of chilli, thick body medium carbonation although a slight less creamed up thickness than the regular one, nice but that is mostly because the base beer is so freaking awesome because this is a step down from the regular yeti, still lovely
