4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz. bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop in Durham. Black pour with a foamy tan head. Light hop aroma with some hints of dark chocolate, some smoke, toffee, oak, and espresso. Quite understated aroma; given the name you would expect more chocolate. Thick, rich dark chocolate taste with just a hint of oak. This is a world class imperial stout that certainly lives up to the Yeti name. That being said it is my least favorite of the Yeti’s (which is like picking your least favorite Playmate; she’s still beautiful). I will also add that after about half of this bottle the cayenne pepper begins to be felt. There is some burning in the back of my throat that is not alcohol. It’s interesting, but I would have prefered the brewer leave that out.

Beautifully smooth Choco bar if an ale! Pours black as night and thick. Medium dark head, excellent lacing. Notes of vanilla and cayenne. Mild hops do not overpower this magnificent beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber. Dark brown with a chocolate brown, foamy head; lasting and lacing. Aromas of chocolate, raisins, roasted malt, oak, and light vanilla. Flavor is sweet chocolate, light vanilla, roasted malt, oak, and a subtle bitter spice. Medium to full bodied with a warm finish. Still has a little of that hop bite in it. I do not notice the cayenne well.

So smooth, velvety on the tongue. Deep dark bitter chocolate flavor with vanilla notes. Stouts don’t get much better than this...if they do at all.

Flaska från systembolaget. Svart färg. Ljusbrunt skum. Tydlig doft av mörk choklad vilket återspeglas i smak. Något bitter chokladsmak.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled March 28, 2013.
Appearance: The body is pitch black, which is expected after the used motor oil pour. The head is short but very dense, though having poor retention. It settles into a thin brown coating with foamy edges.
Aroma: The aroma is subdued and seemingly balanced. I smell some syrupy chocolate with oaky tannins with a mild peppery heat. The peppers open up more as the beer warms. I wish the aroma were stronger, it smells nice but it’s restrained.
Taste: The intro is mild but chocolate is present, along with some surprising pepper skin flavors. The chocolate remains throughout, but it’s more of a subtle complimentary than a strong primary flavor. In-fact the sweet chocolate balances nicely with the dry oak. What’s prominent, though, is the pepper flavors cutting through the oak and chocolate, though not coming off as out of balance. The finish is mild with milk chocolate and a hint of peppery smoke and heat, lingering for a moment.
Palate: Full-bodied and soft, nearing thick.
Overall: Each sip of this shows a different aspect of the beer. On certain sips the peppers are dominate and on others it’s the milk chocolate. This is a great beer regardless and I would gladly buy it once a year.

Bottled... Has a small head. Really dark stout. Strong hints of chocolate and smokey ness are present. Good stout, very bold and flavorful. Coffee and sweetness linger but smooth at the end. Had a redness to its chocolatety texture.

Superb, very chocolatey, with a surprising amount of hops. Almost a dessert beer.
