Wow. This was an intense crazy beer. It pours very thick and black with a brown head. The aroma is seriously spicy with pepper, oak, and dark chocolate. Very minor hints of vanilla. The flavor is super spicy with a nice combination of oak, cedar, and cayenne. The dark chocolate takes over in the middle and then finishes with more earth, wood, and spice. It actually burns the throat on the way down. I imagine the spice will tone down a bit with some age. This bottle was only a month old when I tried it. I enjoyed the balance between the spicy peppers and bitter sweet dark chocolate. That was nice, but I couldn’t finish the bomber by myself.

Pours black with very little dark brown head. Smells of dark roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla and slight hops. Taste is the same with some alcohol burn and pepper notes.

Pours a heavy black with a short dark tan fizzy head. Aroma of chocolate fudge with a touch of vanilla and a little grain. Flavor is darkly roasted malts, chocolate, some pepper, Savory, just a tad sweet, and surprisingly bitter. Body is very heavy and finishes thick with a lingering light bitter hop taste and a little boozy. Goes well with dinner, but better AS dinner ;)

22 ounce bomber. You’ll need a couple people to finish off all 22 ounces. This thing’s a doozy. The dark chocolate and pepper really pops out at you with a full aroma. It’s pitch black in appearance and has the darkest brown foam top I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, it is incredibly boozy upon immediate taste, and then the chocolate, cayenne, and bitterness whap you over the head. It’s not sweet at all though. It tastes like an unprocessed/unsweetened chocolate, as if it’s straight off the cocoa bean plants of Ghana or something along those lines. There’s a lot going on in here, and it’s all bundled up in a syrup-bodied, mega heavy package. I couldn’t finish my glass, and while I can understand how some people enjoy the extremity of it, this one was not for me. Maybe I could like this more under different conditions: in cold weather and with a bigger appetite (I had just finished a big meal, so I was already a little full). Just because it’s a wild brew, in my opinion, doesn’t earn it an A+. I give it more of a B/B+ rating.

22oz. bottle purchased at GCM, Gilbert, AZ. Pours thick and black, with unimpressive tan head that diminishes to a ring. Aroma is sweet chocolate, some vanilla and a hint of chile. Taste is big time chocolate, roasted malt and some heat, due to cayenne. Finish is bitter chocolate, hints of vanilla and some serious cayenne heat. Nice ale.

I 1st had this at Roc Brewing where bartender (Ron) gave me a sample when he opened a bottle. I waited to rate this after I got my own bottle. Pour is pitch black with a thin tan head. Aroma is of overly malted barley with large amounts of chocolate. Flavor is huge on the chocolate with roasted notes, and some liquid caramel. Very sticky, viscous mouth-feel, with some slight alcohol and heat in the finish. Very good.

WOW! All the Great Divide RIS’s have been fantastic, and this is no exception. Pour and aroma perfect, you’ll never be warrned of the suprize that is about to come when tasting. A coffee, more than coco taste for me, but the after taste of cayenne is a treat to the finish. Fantastic offering and I will be making a trip to Total Wine to get more!

Opaque with a full deep brown head. Chocolate and alcohol aroma. Nice chocolate throughout with the oak less pronounced.

On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours inky black, just shy of opaque. Thick mocha head. Aroma is chocolate and some oak. Taste is dark chocolate, charred malts, a bit of coffee, and slight spice on the back. Thick, coating, delicious. Truly a dessert beer. I liked the espresso oak aged version of yeti just a bit more, but hard to argue with this.

Bottle to chalice poured a deep black with a thick light brown head that faded quickly. Strong aroma of cocoa with hints of coffee beans, smoked malt, and vanilla oak. First sip begins with semi-sweet chocolate followed by a blend of burnt malt and slight hoppy bitterness and ending with small amount of cayenne heat. The smoke and palatable bitterness fill the mouth and linger long after each sip. Complex and very drinkable imperial stout.

On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and dispensed to a 9oz. snifter with a darkest brown color, a modest layer of brownish tan, cream & bubbles head foam, and clingy lacing that impressively blanketed the inside of the glass. The nose was very roasty, with cocoa, vanilla, dry coffee, and a touch of woodiness on the back. Full bodied, the flavor also presented peppery spice and medium+ hop bitterness that combined to be almost abrasive, some syrupy, dark fruit sweetness, strong alcohol warmth, and a finish that ended soundly bitter and dry. Big and Bold!
