Commercial Description:
Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch ale is a tribute to the legendary "Wee Heavy" beers of Scotland. A malty, deep-ruby-hued ale, it features a generous amount of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile and a subtle warming character, at 7.7% alcohol by volume. Claymore will be available in six-packs and on draft through mid-April.

Very sweet upfront, but finished off by good strong bitter finish. Where this beer looses some points are on aroma and mouthfeel. While I prefer oskar blues old chub to this, it’s very close. A great Example of the style and one I’ll be brewing soon.

pours amber red with medium head. aroma is sweet with caramel and toffee malts with just a kiss of hops. drinks smooth and semisweet with more caramel and toffee and just enough hops pushing through to keep the sweetness in check. real decent.

Bottle: Poured a deep mahogany color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with a nice touch of toffee. Taste is very well balanced by caramel and toffee malt with just the right amount of sweetness. Body has a creamy texture with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well done though I prefer my scotch ale with more peat malt.

Rich and full. Dark brown with ruby highlights. Aroma is bready and malty while the taste allows a good amount of hops to come through. I do not appreciate the amount of alcohol though.

Clear mahogany with a quickly dissipating thin tan head. Aroma of molasses, licorice, malt, fruit and some light peat and a touch of smoke. Taste of peat malts, licorice/anise, roasted malt and light chocolate. Finished mildly dry.

Pours a dark brown hue with a mostly dissipating tan head. Nose is subtle but rich malts, caramel and peat mostly. Flavor has more malt presence than expected, nice tones of caramel, grain, peat, toffee, slight grassy and floral/earthy hops for balance, light alcohol warming in the sweet malty finish. Medium body, average carbonation, slick texture. A malty scottish ale that lingers between the schilling and wee heavy styles, good balance and extremely quaffable even at 7.7%
