COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch ale is a tribute to the legendary "Wee Heavy" beers of Scotland. A malty, deep-ruby-hued ale, it features a generous amount of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile and a subtle warming character, at 7.7% alcohol by volume. Claymore will be available in six-packs and on draft through mid-April.

Black poor with slight off white head. Aroma of toffee, malt, sweetness. Taste is soft and at the end slight dry touch. Malty and toffee flavours coming through and dominate. Nice sweetness very smooth. Great slow sipper.

Dark brown opaque, light head, slight lace. Malty aroma with a bit of spice kick to it. Smooth, malty toffee with a hint of cherry smoke finishes with a clean light bitter kind of herbal/citrus but too clean to tell and sweet malt in the forefront, leaves you with sweet malt on the tongue. Not a style I enjoy often but decent for the style.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a deep ruby, almost brown. Small tan head which quickly fades. Nose is caramel and dark malt. Taste is sweet at first, with a creamy mouth feel and a slightly alcoholic finish. A very fine wee heavy, a perfect exemplar of the style.

Tasted at taproom. Nice brown color but a little dark for a scotch ale. Soft creamy mouthfeel. Nice caramel malty sweetness. A little bit of a syrupy finish. Solid scotch ale! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"pretty much just short of standout in every catergory, but better than the norm in each as well. a solid interpretation. almost black with a ruby tinge and off white thin head. sweet malt, peet, chocolate, and a touch of hops in the nose. solid body. goes down smooth. if i were to nitpick, just a touch high on the carbonation, but i swirl as i go, so not an issue half way through a pint. textbook scotch ale flavor. nice and warming. 3/11 - surprisingly, even better in the bottle. up a tenth."

Pours very dark brown with a large, lasting pale tan head. Nose shows peated malt, caramel, bready and nutty notes. Rich flavours. Peat, cocoa, toasty malt, slightly solventy booze and sweet bready malt.

Bottle. Caramel malt aroma with notes of peaty smoke and a little bit of chocolate. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head and no lacing. Starts with a lot of caramel and just a hint of chocolate. Finishes smooth with a good hint of peaty smoke with a good bit of chocolate and a some roasted malt flavor lingering on the palate. Excellent scotch ale.

Pours a cola color with a sweet molasses aroma. Taste is very smooth, slightly bitter with a mild raisin and dark roast flavor. This beer hides the scotch and alcohol flavor well. A very drinkable 7.7% alcohol beer that has just enough caramel sweetness. Enjoyable!!

BOD 6/30/14. Dark amber pour (looks like a porter) with normal head, lacing and retention. Weak nose of mostly caramel coupled with hints of roast, dark fruit and coffee/toffee. Almost full bodied with a nice almost creamy texture. Slightly below normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence on the finish. The flavor profile is quite nice and well balanced, but lacks the intensity and complexity of the world class Wee Heavies such as Traquair and Thirsty Dog’s Wulver. It begins as the nose, mostly caramel with hints of dark fruit, roast and coffee/toffee. As the sweetness fades in the middle, hops and associated mild bitterness are noted. The finish leaves you with a touch of smoke and a very light alcohol burn.

ARH (479) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 25, 2014
On tap, poured into a sampler glass. Notes of roasted coffee, light caramel, light chocolate, and dark cherry come through on the aroma with hints of nuts. It’s mostly a sweet coffee aroma though. It pours a clear, but dark caramel-red-brown color with a light-tan colored medium thick, soft ring. A light trace of wisp is left behind on the surface and a low amount of even, small-bubbled lace is left behind. The taste is a medium high sweet with a touch of bitter. The oily beer has a full malty body and a light, soft prickly carbonation. Caramel and cherry strike the mouth predominantly and it finishes with grass. A coffee aftertaste cleans up quite nicely.
