3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Toffee, Chocolate aroma. No head on mine but might be because of the glass I'm using. Really great tasting. My first Scottish ale so not much experience to compare too but it's a keeper to me.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Caramel malt aroma with notes of peaty smoke and a little bit of chocolate. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head and no lacing. Starts with a lot of caramel and just a hint of chocolate. Finishes smooth with a good hint of peaty smoke with a good bit of chocolate and a some roasted malt flavor lingering on the palate. Excellent scotch ale.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a cola color with a sweet molasses aroma. Taste is very smooth, slightly bitter with a mild raisin and dark roast flavor. This beer hides the scotch and alcohol flavor well. A very drinkable 7.7% alcohol beer that has just enough caramel sweetness. Enjoyable!!

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
BOD 6/30/14. Dark amber pour (looks like a porter) with normal head, lacing and retention. Weak nose of mostly caramel coupled with hints of roast, dark fruit and coffee/toffee. Almost full bodied with a nice almost creamy texture. Slightly below normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence on the finish. The flavor profile is quite nice and well balanced, but lacks the intensity and complexity of the world class Wee Heavies such as Traquair and Thirsty Dog’s Wulver. It begins as the nose, mostly caramel with hints of dark fruit, roast and coffee/toffee. As the sweetness fades in the middle, hops and associated mild bitterness are noted. The finish leaves you with a touch of smoke and a very light alcohol burn.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap, poured into a sampler glass. Notes of roasted coffee, light caramel, light chocolate, and dark cherry come through on the aroma with hints of nuts. It’s mostly a sweet coffee aroma though. It pours a clear, but dark caramel-red-brown color with a light-tan colored medium thick, soft ring. A light trace of wisp is left behind on the surface and a low amount of even, small-bubbled lace is left behind. The taste is a medium high sweet with a touch of bitter. The oily beer has a full malty body and a light, soft prickly carbonation. Caramel and cherry strike the mouth predominantly and it finishes with grass. A coffee aftertaste cleans up quite nicely.

355mL bottle Bottled on MAY 05 2014
Nice looking beer; deep ruby-highlighted bronze body, firm beige head persists.
Moderate intensity aroma; rich burnt toffee, touch of bitter chocolate, roasted nut & earthy hop character.
Good density to the body, thick, chewy without being cloying, subdued carbonation contributes to the overall richness.
Body delivers plenty of caramelised malt characters with notes of toasted nuts, browned bread, dried fig & sultana, with a reasonably bold hop bitterness providing balance and lingering earthy spicy note. Bit of alcohol warmth, especially as it warms.
Very tasty wee heavy, probably on the lower end of the spectrum, bit less of a meal compared the the bigger ones; no objections of course.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear dark amber with a short antique white cap, then ring. Smoky, roasted malt nose. Medium body and astringent. Sweet, smoky flavor with some caramel. Probably should be classified as a stout.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark red color with strong, roasted caramel flavor. Sweet (as others have stated) but I think it makes up for it with smoothness. A good cold weather ale.
