COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch ale is a tribute to the legendary "Wee Heavy" beers of Scotland. A malty, deep-ruby-hued ale, it features a generous amount of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile and a subtle warming character, at 7.7% alcohol by volume. Claymore will be available in six-packs and on draft through mid-April.

This was my 1st Claymore and I like it a lot. The caramel maltiness and the slight warming from the alcohol was just right.

Dark brown- almost a porter in appearance. The nose shows tobacco and cedar aromatics. Sweet malts on the palate upon entry and through the mid palate. Lively, yet soft mouthfeel. Almost an old ale profile here. Just a hint of hops on the finish. Delicious.

Bottle poured a dark brown into a glass. Off white head, aromas of peat, fruit, smoke and a little chocolate. Taste is sweet and smokey, some caramel comes out. Nice dry finish, enjoyed this.

This Scotch Ale poured a deep red colour with a nice, creamy, tan coloured head. To the nose there are scents of chocolate, coffee, ripe fruit and caramel. First taste was smooth and bursting with flavour. Flavours of coffee, cocoa, molassass and a small hopp flavour. Finish is roasty with coffee flavours lingering.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a slight ruby tone. Looks like root beer. The taste is where this beer really stands out. It hits like a porter and does down like a brown ale. Very very good for a Scotch ale, matter of fact this is probably the best one I’ve ever had. There are hints of roasted malt, barley, maple, molasses, and brown sugar. A pretty complex yet well balanced beer. Highly recommended.

Hadn’t had a good scotch ale in awhile, so I wanted give this gut a whirl. Dark but clear pour with tan head that sat on top of the beer. Smell had a nice roasty flavor and malty sweetness. The taste followed. I loved the smoky and peaty-ness as it was well balanced with a caramel sweetness. Warming flavors (getting a little bit of that ABV) and pretty full bodied. It didn’t lift my kilt all the way up, but a darned good scotch ale.

Toffee and nutty. Taste - Caramel malt. Good balance of sweet and smoky. Toffee and caramel. Good roasty flavor. Mouthfeel - Medium to full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Dry finish. Really enjoyed this one. Starting to really get into this style.

Clear, very dark cola color with a small, creamy, off-white head, nice retention and moderate lace. Aromas of mild caramel, smoke, dark fruit and just a hint of chocolate. Flavors are highlighted by a caramel malt sweetness that forms a foundation through which peek molasses, port, figs and doughy bread. Full body, subtle carbonation, creamy smooth mouthfeel, and a sweet and smoky finish. Really enjoyed this one.

Bottle purchased at Belmont Beverage (W. State Blvd., Ft. Wayne, IN) on 4-07-2012 and rated on 4-14-2012. Bottled on Jan. 26, 2012. Poured a very, very small tan head that mostly diminished with spotty amounts of lacing, opaque body, no visible carbonation, and a dark brown hue with a ruby tint. The Aroma was very malty, sweet, hints of roastiness, and caramel. The Flavor was sweet, malty, some caramel, and some hops in the background. The Mouthfeel was tingly with a slight warming sensation and this is a light-medium bodied Scotch Ale. Overall, this beer is very quaffable, worthy of a try, the ABV was well masked, and I would definitely drink this beer again and again and again.
