COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our homage to the beers that have quenched the thirst of Belgian farm workers for centuries. Brewed with barley, wheat and rice and fermented at high temperatures with a special blend of four different yeast strains, Saison is fruity and slightly tart, with a dry finish that makes it that rarest of treats–a beer as refreshing as it is complex. 7.3% ABV.

Aroma: strong Belgian yeast, grain, and spice Appearance: very mildly cloudy yellow; a classic saison look Taste: pretty overwhelming yeast flavor. Rather acidic/astringent and sweet simultaneously, although it finishes with a dry, light citrus note Palate: finish makes an otherwise rather overwhelming flavor of funky yeasts more palatable Not bad, but not my favorite Saison.

Pours a cloudy yellow with sweet citrus aromas (peach, tangerine). Complex, but there is an astringent note (not tart), that doesn’t work.

Bottle to glass. First time trying a saison. Aroma is grassy and barnyard hay. Some fruity hints too? I could not coax a head, though I poured relatively hard. It pours a very cloudy yellow. Taste is bitter and sour. A slick, somewhat sticky mouthfeel, flat carbonation. Not a fan of the saison.

I keep trying to like the Belgian style beers, but the funky spiciness just doesn’t do it for me. This was more drinkable than the others until it warmed up, then it deteriorated.

Notes from Review on 7.1.10 Poured from bottle to Sam Adams glass. A: Cloudy straw. Low/no head, with complimentary ribbons apparent along glass. S: Medium intensity for a saison. Sweet, toasty malt mend well with touch of spiciness (sense some allspice notes). A hint of farm funk. T: The beer falls over mouth with evident saison flavors: rice, corn husk, coriander. If I’m not mistaken, I sense a hint of brett funk. M: Fine, foamy carbonation overwhelms my mouth. As it warms, carbonation seems less sharp, but not less prevalent. Having a hard time with all the flavor nuances of this bottle given the perceived over carbonation. D: I had a hard time with the carbonation on this one. Serving type: bottle 12-21-2010

Poured into a pint glass. Aromas of lemon peel, bananas and yeast. Slightly cloudy, yellow color. Initial flavors of banana, clove, citrus and yeast. Great funky flavors on the finish. Really great farmhouse ale.

Rated on 9-25-2009 at Fort Wayne, IN Gathering. This bottled beer pours a very small white head that mostly diminished, some floaties, cloudy body with a tapioca hue, and next to no lacing. The Aroma is fruity, spicy, yeasty, and lightly tart. The Taste is tart, fruity, spicy, and has a dry finish. The Palate is spritzy and this beer is light-medium bodied. In conclusion, this is an easy drinking beer as the 7.3%ABV is well masked and is easy on the palate. I recommend trying this Saison.
