COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our homage to the beers that have quenched the thirst of Belgian farm workers for centuries. Brewed with barley, wheat and rice and fermented at high temperatures with a special blend of four different yeast strains, Saison is fruity and slightly tart, with a dry finish that makes it that rarest of treats–a beer as refreshing as it is complex. 7.3% ABV.

May 31st, 2011 - When Spring turns into Summer and the sun gets to be a little heavier in the sky, the fun and heady wheat beers of a month ago lose some of their potency. Something drier, with a heavier grain profile becomes a more suitable beer for cutting the sweat and anguish of an oppressive day. The Colette is a perfect fit for these transitional days, beautiful and burning bright with a dandelion yellow hue and a finger of soft, white foam. Banana and clove and a little corn tortilla rise from the surface, giving off light but coating smells. Fresh and full of grains, Great Divide did an excellent job of capturing the smell of the fields and putting that romantic image into a bottle. Full bodied and busy with a sharp and serrated aftertaste, the Colette can cut through dry mouth or thirst, with ample uplifting alcoholic corn and tortilla and flowery dandelion tastes, like bitter mizuna greens, a subtle vegetable bitterness and again, flowing dry graininess.

Farmhouse Ales are among the most eclectic beers in the world of craft brewing. This style allows brewers to incorporate flavors that you wouldn’t always expect. Great Divide’s Colette offers a whole lot of variety and complexity thanks to its three malts and four yeast strains. On the nose, Colette is fruity and funky. Aroma isn’t huge but it’s an early indicator of the Saison’s balance and complexity. Colette makes a great first impression with the smooth, sweet malt tastes of wheat and rice. The wheat element is especially great with notes of citrus, subtle bubblegum, and bread. Yeasty taste takes over in the finish. Unfortunately, I was less enthusiastic about that component. Yeast flavor is certainly earthy but in a way that I’ve never encountered. It was slightly peppery but there was also a strange mineral taste that reminded me of, well, mineral water. I liked that it was a different taste but I’m partial the tart yeast funk of Belgian strains. Still, flavor was damn satisfying. All told, Colette was as complex and refreshing as promised. For Farmhouse Ale that comes from a 12 ounce bottle, Great Divide’s offering is hard to beat.

Rich hazy golden coloured body with a nice two centimetre tall pure white head. Aroma of grass, hay, wheat, yeast and a lot of herbs and spices - very nice and floral as well. Light to Medium-bodied; Grassy and dry herbal flavours dominate the beer with an emphasis on wheat and the strong yeast strain. Aftertaste has a slight sweetness, and perhaps a few noticeable hops, but the flavour is centred around the dry and floral wheat and spice notes that dominate. Overall, a very nice beer and a consistent saison with what you’d expect to drink littered throughout the smell and tastes - definitely worth trying or buying a lot of if you like the style, since i’ts available in many places! I sampled this pint on draught at the brewpub in downtown Denver, Colorado with haddon90 on 07-June-2014.

12 oz bottle pours a hazy yellow. Good fruity yeast aroma. Funky yeast taste. Lemon, hay, bread, very earthy. Smooth finish. Very good saison.

Draft at College Inn. Pours hazy yellow with splotchy white head and irregular lacing. Lemon zest, pepper, mineral, somewhat floral, just the lightest touch of bubble gum. Lightly sweet up front gives way to a dry, slightly tart finish. Medium body, lively, prickly carbonation. Refreshing, despite the 7.3%. Overall: this is a very nice saison -- it’s nice to find a non-bretted/wild American saison that isn’t straight up bubble gum and coriander. Would drink again.

On tap at RnH. Hazy blonde pour. Dry, peppery, rustic barnyard funk. Not that sugary, so I don’t get that bubble gum flavor I don’t like in saisons. Pretty good.

Belgian yeast, banana, citrus, and spice in the aroma. Flavor is a little sweet and fruity with some underlying musty barnyard flavors. Bitter citrus finish.
