3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
May 31st, 2011 - When Spring turns into Summer and the sun gets to be a little heavier in the sky, the fun and heady wheat beers of a month ago lose some of their potency. Something drier, with a heavier grain profile becomes a more suitable beer for cutting the sweat and anguish of an oppressive day. The Colette is a perfect fit for these transitional days, beautiful and burning bright with a dandelion yellow hue and a finger of soft, white foam. Banana and clove and a little corn tortilla rise from the surface, giving off light but coating smells. Fresh and full of grains, Great Divide did an excellent job of capturing the smell of the fields and putting that romantic image into a bottle. Full bodied and busy with a sharp and serrated aftertaste, the Colette can cut through dry mouth or thirst, with ample uplifting alcoholic corn and tortilla and flowery dandelion tastes, like bitter mizuna greens, a subtle vegetable bitterness and again, flowing dry graininess.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hard to qualify this as a saison; it’s more like a light tripel, or a golden belgian. Lots of belgian yeast, no barnyard funk, or prominent citrus. Pours bright yellow, with a decent head. Very, very sweet for a ’saison’, lots of banana, butterscotch, and some spice. It tastes like a light version of Allagash’s Triple, or La fin du Monde. Very nice stuff, super drinkable, tasty and rich.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On draft at The Big Hunt in D.C.
the beer is hazy and straw to golden hued with a quarter inch of white head. the aroma offers malt, grass, light spice, coriander, pepper. Medium bodied and malty, with a bit of a harsh / aggressive hop punch toward the finish. Pepper and alcohol, citrus, lemon. A bit unrefined. Not bad, but lacking the elegant complexity and/or drinkability I was seeking.

Banana, bubblegum, yeasty. Pale cloudy yellow, medium white head. Slight bitterness, bready balanced by bubblegum. Alcohol is slightly present, slightly oily, relatively lively. Pretty darn good.

Pours cloudy golden with 1/2" of foamy white head. Smells of sour wheat and grass. Tastes of sour grasses, lemon, rice, and wax lips.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very middling Saison. Not enough earthy seasoning for me. Pours hazy yellow with less than expected head. Scent is grass and nutmeg. Tastes is not well balanced between spice, bitter, and sweet. Medium and undercarbonated. Blah. Draft - Manuel’s Tavern - Atlanta, GA

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This reminds me so much of la fin du monde which is strange... pours opaque gold with white frothy head that doesn’t hold well. Bubble gum and yeasty nose. Crisp on the tongue with a nice finish.

tap - tasty fruity saison. Touch of barnyard funk, hay and sheep milk cheese. Dry, slightly hoppy finish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
A very nice Saison. Not particularly extreme, but a nice understated beer with grassyness and some belgian spicyness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a glowing yellow with a really thin head that leaves light lacing. Aroma is of a spicy, classic saison. Taste is a little sweet and fruity. Palate is light and it is easy drinking. Lacking complexity overall but still a really nice "no-brainer". I would drink this again.
