COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our homage to the beers that have quenched the thirst of Belgian farm workers for centuries. Brewed with barley, wheat and rice and fermented at high temperatures with a special blend of four different yeast strains, Saison is fruity and slightly tart, with a dry finish that makes it that rarest of treats–a beer as refreshing as it is complex. 7.3% ABV.

I love it. Just the right amount of funk. I let it settle, so it poured only slightly cloudy straw yellow, could have a lot more sediment if you like. Strong lemon and yeasty bread dough aroma. Sweet and tart with lots of fruit- lemon, apricot, tart apple - and a little spice. Lots of yeast character, sour funk, tartness, and that spiciness. Fairly quick dry finish. I’d put it in the biere de garde category rather than saison.

12 oz bottle into tulip. Aroma is of grain--you know, it kind of smells like a farm, minus the cowshit. That’s a compliment. Simple, crisp, and refreshing. Pours a hazy light gold with minimal head or lacework. Keeps a collar of foam throughout. Taste is spicy, thirst-quenching, delicious. I’ve been on an Imperial Stout kick since September or so of last year, but these kinds of beers are becoming increasingly attractive to me. I don’t know if it’s just the longing for summer, or just the wanting of less heavy beers, but this tastes absolutely fantastic at the moment. It does taste very similar to a Belgian wit, like some other users have said. An extremely tasty wit if I must say so. Carbonation is high, agreeable. Kind of slick. I can imagine myself gulping this down by the case during the summer--if I could afford it.

THOUGHTS: A very nice saison. Not as funky as some, but it was very refreshing and easy to drink for the ABV. Hid alcohol well. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a lightly cloudy, medium golden with very nice carbonation and a large, nearly white head that mostly diminished but left excellent lacing. The aroma was light to moderate hay and straw; moderate to heavy doughy, earthy and cobwebby yeast; citrus and other fruit, and wheat. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and acidic; while the finish was sweet, acidic and lightly sour with an average duration. There was wheat, white bread, lots of yeast, fruit, citrus, dough and sour lemon. The light to medium body was fairly dry with rather fizzy carbonation and a dry and lightly astringent finish.

Great saison, farmhouse ale. Pours just cloudy with a nice head, honestly, it’s also great from the bottle. Soured hay, hoppy spruce and a scoshe of barnyard take you right into those Flemish fields. Those aromas translate nicely into the taste and palate with the malty grains and citrus/herbs from the hops predominating. The tartness of the style is evident in the light drying of the palate in the finish.

Aroma is spicy yeast, bananas and a hint of sweetness. The flavor is complex spices, orange/citrus, complex bread from the different malts and a tart/tangy finish.

Hazy honey color with a tall head. A bit of funk and yeasty esters on the nose - a bit of apricot. Taste is a nice balance of caramel sweetness, spice, and fruity hops. Dry, crisp finish. A winner.

Great saison with that GD kick. Lovely pale yellow, fizzy and straw, grass, after the rain yards. Tart, zingy, boozy. Lots going on here behind a regular looking saison.

UPDATED: JUL 30, 2013 The moniker ’farmhouse" seems a bit of a stretch for this somewhat polished and balanced beer. No rustic elements are manifest, intensity is restrained and the abv is a bit high for anyone trying to "work". Nevertheless, this is an appealing remedy for thirst with a good bit of flavor from yeast and some notes of honey without much distracting sweetness.

Appearance: very cloudy deep golden color with a thin head that recedes quickly with miniscule lacing. Lots of yeast sediment floating in suspension, moderate carbonation. Aroma: wheat and mild toasted barley dominated by a fruity aroma and significant yeast presence. Mouthfeel: between light and medium bodied, finish is somewhat dry. Flavor: very bready -- like eating a slice of bread that contains fruit and nuts. Alcohol is completely concealed -- therefore at 7.3% this beer could easily sneak up on you. Overall: just an excellent, easily drinkable, refreshing, and delicious farmhouse ale.
