3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 HomeBrewHawk (441) - De Soto, USA - JUN 28, 2009
22oz bottle. Bottled on 4/15/09. Bottle conditioned. Served in a Duvel Tulip. Poured a pretty pale straw with two fingers of puffy white head. Wheaty spice in the aroma with some lemon, also a bit of sugar as it warmed. Slight hop flavor, also some yeasty funk. Fairly complex flavors. Light bodied, dry and refreshing. I enjoyed this.

Yes, a new Saison for me to try. It’s excellent! But of course it is, it is a legendary brew.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 FlacoAlto (3153) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 29, 2012
Arrives from the tap with a frothy, initially one-finger thick, pale tan, mostly white head. The beer is a hazy, straw gold color. The nose smells of light, lemon like citrus, earthy coriander, grassy herbs, crushed pale malt / grain.
The flavor is mostly dry up front, but has a full grassy malt / grain flavor to it and finishes with a hint of tartness. It definitely has a full on earthy coriander like flavor that is a touch on the dirty side. The carbonation provides some prickly texture, but isn’t really effervescent. I like the chewy grain / malt character that this beer has, it provides an almost creamy texture to the palate as well. The finish has some yeast spiciness and phenolics to it that help to further dry out the beer. Hints of citrus are noticeable from time to time in the flavor, and these get a touch more pronounced as the beer warms up. Other fruit notes of pear, and perhaps a touch of floral apple are also noticeable.
Not bad, the dirty coriander note (whether from the fermentation character or actual coriander) is a touch too much. I do like the texture that this beer has, it is nice without being too heavy.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 slimchill (981) - Austin, Texas, USA - MAY 25, 2012
Draught. Clear pale gold with a big, full white head. Nose is lemon zest and peppercorns. Distinctly citrus acidity. Clean, dry, and soft-textured. Opens with spice and has a punch of acidity in the middle of the palate, finishing dry. Very good.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 CampesinoTino (497) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 23, 2012
Bottle. Appearance is a bright pale yellow and gold color with an inch of off-white foam. Aroma is sharp and yeasty with notes of citrus peel, pear and clove. The taste starts out tart and acidic with a blend of lemon, white grape, green apple and honey malt sweetness. Also a bit of pepper and spice from the yeast. As expected, there’s lots of lively carbonation in the body along with a dry, tart finish. Gets the job done as a thirst quencher.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 gururyan (365) - Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA - MAY 21, 2012
Bright Saison, great for a spring ale for sure. The farmhouse floral is a touch fruity but with a wheat body.

On tap at the local option. Pours a hazy pale yellow with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has light citrus and flora note with a bit of soapiness and light grain. Flavor begins with grain but has a growing light lemon and floral as well as a hint of soap.

Funk belgian yeast aroma smells like, well, butt. Once you get past the butt smell its a quite pleasant saison with that typical light funky and zesty body and funky dry finish. Good saison I would just drink it from the bottle to avoid ye ole’ butt.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 umich03jm (182) - Michigan, USA - MAY 16, 2012
Pours a mostly clear bright yellow color, no head. Aroma is slightly fruity but mostly you smell the belgian yeast scent. Taste is slightly sweet fruit up front finishing very tart and dry. The belgian yeast taste is there throughout as well. Not a big fan of farmhouse ales. This one seems like a good example though.
