Commercial Description:
Think of it as a hefeweizen’s older brother. A hearty mix of wheat and dark German barley malts gives it a medium body and muddy brown hue, while our proprietary yeast strain provides the signature notes of banana and clove. If you like wheat beers, come to the Dunkel side. You won’t be disappointed. Just don’t put any lemon in it. 6.4% ABV.

Pour is a cloudy dark copper with a thin short head (should be moussy). Smells of banana, with some spice and bubble gum. Initially a little fishy. Basically true to style. Taste is slightly sweet with the bubble gum coming though a bit more as you roll it. Slight citrus tartness with a bitter hop finish. Palate is soft with a strange body. It seems to be a nice medium but at the same time a little watery. Not my favorite style but a good beer.

Bottle.
Pours a rich, glassy amber with a quickly dissipating head of off-white. Aroma is earthy melon (cantaloupe and honey dew) with a touch of sugar-roasted malt. Slight bready notes and yeasty hints in the background. Flavor is more of the earthy melon and some subtle spices, like nutmeg and cinammon rounded out by sweet molasses. Slick mouthfeel. On paper, this should be a fantastic beer but the individual parts are too busy trying to steal the spotlight for any sense of cohesion to be achieved.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a small beigh head. Aroma of wheat, caramel, faint banana and has a hint of cloves. Flavor was sweet malts, dark caramel, banana, wheat and had some nuttiness with a medium body and finishes clean and dry.

Reddish amber color with a tan colored head. Puffed wheat and caramel corn nose, with a hint of something tangy. Over ripe bananas, cloves, Super Sugar Crisp cereal and a caramel sweetness. Nice balance and light for a dunkel. Very tastey beer.

THOUGHTS: Nice beer, but a little flat and bland for the style. Perfectly fine and easy to drink, but nothing special. It was kind of like American cheese and white bread. It’s fin, but I’d rather have Gorgonzola and pumpernickel. A little too much weizen and not enough dunkel. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy at first and then muddy with the yeast, light to medium orangey brown with an average to large, off-white head that mostly diminished and didn’t leave much lacing. The aroma was light to moderate grain, straw and milk chocolate; light to moderate yeast; banana, bubble gum, hints of cherry; lemon and wheat. The initial flavor was sweet, acidic and lightly sour; while the finish was sweet, acidic and slightly bitter with an average duration. There was milk chocolate, wheat, a little citrus and yeast. The light to medium body was a little oily and a bit syrupy and then dry. It was sticky on the lips with fizzy carbonation and a slightly astringent finish.
