COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewing with fresh hops is a big endeavor, requiring four to five times the hop volume compared to using pelletized hops. Although the process is complex, it brings impressive results: Fresh Hop is an American-style pale ale with moderate hop bitterness marked by a unique and intensely grassy hop flavor and aroma. Fresh Hop is a superbly refreshing, medium bodied, light-copper colored pale ale weighing in at 55 IBUs and 6.1% ABV.

22 oz bomber. Clear copper-amber beer topped by a thick and fluffy sticky yellowish head. Sweet, fruity hop aroma, strong piny hop aroma as well with a bit of resin. Sweet malty backbone, some caramel. Flavour is actually quite soft and sweet, caramel/toffeeish malt. A little bit bready as well. Flavour shows a touch of pine and floral hops, but has a soft moderate bitterness. Sweet lingering toffee malts in the finish. Nice brew.

On tap at Pizzeria Paradiso in Dupont Circle. Pours a clear orange/amber with a small white head. Aroma is grassy hops, caramel, pine resin. Taste is syrupy and medicinal with cherry cough syrup and a bit of dry biscuit and dry, grassy hops. Not impressed.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2011 Sample at the From The Vine beer tasting on 11/12/2010: Pours an amber-gold color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Spotty lacing. Floral hops and citrus aroma. Medium body with flavors of grapefruit, floral hops and malt. The finish is earthy hops with a citrus aftertaste. Above average overall.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2013 A regular pale ale smell and flavor, lightly hopped and sweet, good solid malt background, but what I can’t understand is why such a common beer is $5 a bomber. Not worth the price.

bottle from Bierzwerg. clear golden yellow, large white head. Lovely hoppy nose, grassy and citrussy. Medium-bodied, solid malty base with loadas and loads of green hops, resiny, grassy and citrussy. Not bitter but still immensely hoppy. A delicious beer.

Any first impressions?
-A sheet of head dips into the orange gown.
-Spicy, piney hops evolve into orangey fruitiness in the nose.
-Grassy, leafy, herbal hoppiness lathers the tongue in generous yet never exaggerated doses.
-Lush maltiness benefits from the soothing carbonation.

What if you dig deeper?
-The juicy hop bitterness is pleasantly spicy and satisfyingly lingering.
-The malt provides plenty of body, but few flavors.
-Yet another very good Great Divide product, right within the advertised style.

Bottle; no date.

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2010 2010-07-31. Crisp golden body with a small white head. 3+ Flavour has a modest green hop profile, mild supportive malt. 6+ Aroma of green vegetation, leafy hops. Average palate. Lots of green hops, but not much citrus? Likely starting to fade a bit but enjoyable if not outstanding. 7/3/6/3/14 - 3.3 Bottle at ChrisOs Pre-GBBF Shindig 2010

2006-07-XX. Golden orange with a small creamy white head. Moderate not quite floral, leafy hops in the aroma. Fairly similar flavour, green leafy hops build with each sip, very mild resin. Quite hoppy, but not particularly bitter. Average palate. Solid quaff. 7/3+/7/3/14 - 3.6 Bottle. Following Michigan Brewers Festival 2006

I don’t give a crap who you are, you must admit that GD makes great beers. This one is no exception. I like my hops like I like my poontang, namely fresh, wet, and aromatic, and this one fits the bill nicely. The pour is dark straw with 2-finger off-white head and those awesome GD floaties. Aroma is huge wet hops and citrus, honeydew, mango, pineapple. The flavor is hoppy, fruity, caramel malty. Pretty dense palate for an APA, and a crisp, very smooth finish with great complexity and balance. This, in my opinion, is the new benchmark for APAs.

2007 Bottle. Pours with a largish, slightly yellow, rocky white head that leaves lots of lacing. Ever so slightly hazed amber body. Tangy orange-citrus hops on the nose with a touch of cannabis. Taste is m alty with some light, but dank, chewy hops rounding out the finish (but bitterness is very moderate). Full, slightly syrupy mouthfeel.
