COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Grand Cru is our very special Belgian-style dark ale. Imported malts give it a round malty richness, and the fruity complexity and slightly spicy character come from brewing with a proprietary Belgian yeast strain. Don’t let the name fool you; while it may be a special occasion beer, this medium-bodied, elegant incarnation is anything but snobbish. Suggested food pairings: Roasted chicken with thyme, braised short ribs, oven roasted vegetables, grilled sweet potatoes, roaring 40′s blue cheese, bread pudding.

Very good version of the Belgian Strong Ale. Darker bodied and a fuller flavor than most continental varieties. Peach, some plum, and some caramelly undertones.

On tap at TapWerks OKC. Pours a dark amber with a small frothy off white head with nice sticky lacing. The aroma is a sweet raisin malt vanilla and oak. Medium mouthfeel with a vanilla oak taste and nice finish. Easy to drink hiding the alcohol well, a very good Belgian strong ale from Great Divide.

Strong aroma is yeasty with firm tones of cinnamon and cloves and a malty underpinning. It pours a clear, dark brown like a cola but has a thick, frothy light tan head. Molasses-sweet flavor is malty and a little spicy and has hints of caramel and honey. Texture is smooth, a little thick and subtly tingly. This one is a pleasure to drink.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a snifter glass. A: Pours jet black with a one finger beige head. S: Dark fruits, brown sugar, and esters from the yeast. T: Very sweet with a similar taste as the smell. M: Medium bodied, well carbonated, but has a solid alcohol bite in the finish. O: This beer would be better if the alcohol were hidden better, but this is still one of Great Divide’s better Belgian style beers.

At the release party on 1/7/11 at the brewery. Great Divide’s biggest Belgian style ale to date is very tasty. Notes of raisin and spices reminiscent of Avery’s The Reverent. Beautifully carbonated with a wonderful mouthfeel and a slight alcohol burn. Great Divide had not really impressed me with their Belgians until I tried this.

Aroma of raisins and malt and alcohol. Smells delicious. Pours a medium brown with a light frothy head. Tastes as delicious as it smells.

Bottle 650ml: Dark red colour, with a creamy brown big head. Aroma is dominated of brown sirup, citrus, alcy, sugar and caramelly. Flavor had a sugar, caramelly, cirup mouthfeeling, some dark choclate to was there. Big body, long fruity/alcy finish.

Clear red-brown with good, foamy, head / Nose of sour malt, cocoa, banana, and dark fruit / Full, sweet, syrupy, body with modest hopping and big finish / Flavors of plums, prunes, molasses, banana, cocoa, and nuts / Probably just personal bias, but would prefer a little more hopping. Excellent, though.
