COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hades is brewed with a rare Belgian yeast strain that gives a complex spicy flavor and aroma. Noticeable hops and medium malt character make it an extremely well-balanced, crisp ale. Hades goes great with a bowl of fresh mussels, crusty bread, and virtually any artesian cheese.

Bomber. Pours mostly clear yellow. Very little white head. Yeasty, hoppy aroma. Thin for a Belgian ale. Simple for style. Finishes quickly.

Pours out bright yellow, not much head at all on this one actually maybe some fizz here or there. Aroma is ok, typical sweet and spicy mixture you would expect on any decent belgian. Taste was honestly kinda rough at first when this thing first came out of the chiller, pretty abrasive and alcoholic. But the thing warms up and you start to enjoy it more and notice the spices and doughy flavor of the yeast. Not too bad, not too great. Kinda unremarkable.

Pours out a bright yellow color with a white head on it. Smell is fruity, full of bananas and lemons. Some malt sweetness and perhaps a little bit of hops. Not much alcohol is detected. Pretty bad at cold temps, but as it warmed it became much more interesting and drinkable. I think the lower rating is due to people drinking this one too cold. Let it warm up and its good!

Bottle. A mild bodied Belgium ale that has the taste of mild wheat with an acidic taste. The alcohol content is hidden very well.

Appearance: Pours a clear, sparkling light yellow body with a white, creamy head. Smell: A sweet-smelling grainy nose with hints of yeast, pineapple, banana, and perfumy hops. Taste: Again, sweetish and grainy, but with a pronounced, sweet lemony flavor and lesser notes of yeast and banana. Light, spicy hops lend a bit of bitterness to the lightly acidic, semi-sweet finish. Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Moderate carbonation. Drinkability: I will say that when faced with the task of soothing my harried nerves after navigating my way through Atlanta traffic, the Great Divide Hades did a bang up job.

The name led me to believe this was going to be special. I was wrong. Poor attempt at a Belgian. This seemed more like a mix between a Budweiser and a Belgian. The color was pale gold but appeared to be very filtered and clear. Thick white, foamy head. Tight carbonation bubbles. The aroma was clovey with fruit. Flavor was more of the same, cloves, apples and a faint yeastiness. The palate was dry, weak and watery. So depressing, I was hoping for more from this brewer.

Bomber. Light straw color with a fizzy slowly diminishing white head. There is a nice continuance of champagne like bubbles that saves the appearance, somewhat. Sweet doughy malts, some light candi, touch of must, hint of honey, and mild sweet herb aromas. A fairly typical golden/belgian ale sniff. Very sweet, with clove honey, candi, thistle blossoms, apples, pears and pineapple all showing a presence in the early stages. Lightly acidic that help push some of the sweetness aside. I seem to catch some saaz and noble hops. as it has some light grass and herbal qualities in the finish. Linger is semi-dry with some raw grains and a sweet roll thought crosses my mind. Some hints of metal here and there. I have had worse belgian/golden ales and several coming from Belgium. A relatively simple ale.

I’m really liking these hoppy Belgians. This reminds be mostly of a Saison but it’s a bit too bitter to be one of those. Nice crisp white head...not very lasting though but still has a great aroma. This is a very dry beer...maybe has something to do with the special yeast used. Light malt taste with just a hint of Belgian candy sugar. Not as much spice as expected but I feel that’s a good thing. Good one!

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2008 500 mL, bottled 1st week of June 07. Clear and golden with a small, sticky head that lasts well. Spicy aroma of a wit without the bubblegum: bitter citrus peel, coriander, and some added zesty-herb hoppiness. Tastes more of hops and bitter citrus than most Belgians I have sampled. There’s some malty bubblegum flavors underneath but the spices, hops, and noticeable alcohol are all a bit too dominating for me to taste much malt. LIght-medium bodied, astringent, and dryish mouthfeel.

Draft at Max’s Baltimore. Poured a clear golden color with a creamy white head. Aroma was yeasty with hints of fruit and some hops. Flavor was yeast, spice and some citrus. Rather hoppy for a Blegian style but it was a nice change of pace.
