2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 jdskinns (102) - South Roxana, Illinois, USA - SEP 10, 2010
Bottle. Pours a yellow straw color with a quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is yeast, spice, and some hops. Taste is sweet with a slight yeast character coming through. A slight sourness as well. Medium body with an oily texture. This was alright.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 cmillward (497) - San Francisco, California, USA - OCT 11, 2008
Bottle. Unappetizing yellow body with a thin ring of white head. Smells like corn on the nose, sweet with a little grainy malt, slight yeast aromas. Slightly sweet with some yeasty notes in the flavor a slight bitterness comes through at the end. Finishes a semi-dry, thin but with decently soft carbonation. Blah.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 jonas (4613) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - DEC 9, 2007
Bottle. Fairly perfumed nose. Hazy pale yellow. Light body, perfumed belgian bubblegum yeast notes, really pushed over the brink by the aromatic hops. Medium to light body, sparkly mouthfeel.
A beer your grandmother might dab behind her ears.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 heemer77 (4796) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - APR 2, 2008
Pale straw body with some haze. The head is bright white. The aroma is sweet with pears, cinnamon and some Super Glue. The taste is more of that glue character with some cinnamon spice. The finish is old sweat socks and aluminum. There is also an odd note of wax. While, the start of each drink begins promising with some pears, it fades to those other off flavors very quickly. Strangely made, I am not sure what Great Divide hoped to accomplish with this one. A sweet Belgian ale with some spicing, maybe a super pumped Belgian Wit? I am not sure as it is mostly a confusing mess with hints of sweetness and funk. It’s like you mixed a bad Belgian Golden style ale with a poorly made wit. It’s not terrible, but it seems like they didn’t know what they wanted.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 ante (3375) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - SEP 30, 2007
UPDATED: FEB 2, 2008 Bottled. Clear pale golden with a fluffy white foam. Clean and sweet aroma of corn, pale malts, bread, mild lemon and alcohol. Sweet flavour of banana, yeast, canned corn, canned oranges and alcohol. Hot finish of banana and boiled vegetables.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 bleeng (1135) - Houston nowhere near Beersel, Texas, USA - OCT 5, 2007
22 oz bomber purchased in KC, MO. Pours almost clear yellow like a macro lager. Heavy carbonation from the bottom. Small head that seems to sustain. Nose is minimal, but I’m dealing with a head cold...aarrgg. Initial flavoring is mild with a yeasty and mild hop flavor. The alcohol is well hidden and this beer is very smooth-not an "in your face" typical GD beer. I was expecting more of an over-the-top style Belgium style beer. This is a decent "single"-nothing more-nothing less. I will re-rate after I get rid of this cold and wish for better. This is not a Mars Volta beer....
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 nick76 (3591) - Tampa, Florida, USA - SEP 6, 2008
The aroma is yeasty with malt, light fruit, and grass. The appearance is pale gold with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin with a soapy finish. Overall it’s not that special.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 smcolw (426) - Wayland, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 23, 2009
Surprisingly clear with a very pale gold color. Light lace, small head.
This beer smells far more closely to a cream ale than a Belgian. There are some "white" elements to it, but they are mild.
Ah, the taste is closer to the real thing. Some citrus and a good amount of wheat flavor. The swallow features stronger wheat that dissipates rapidly in the aftertaste. The beer is highly carbonated with a low body texture.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Acknud (966) - Morganfield, Kentucky, USA - FEB 23, 2009
No color, little head. Aroma is heavy on corn and the taste, while there are a few spices, is mostly of a cheap pale lager. There are way better Belgians out there.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ernest (5187) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 2, 2007
Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy, white, fully diminishing. Body is clear light yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly yeasty (basement), with light notes of gum, lemon zest, and metal shavings. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively/fizzy carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Unfortunately this first attempt at a Belgian styled beer from GD does not come off too well. Worst part is the appearance, which is as un-Belgian as it gets. The aroma and balance are ok, but there’s really not much to it. A light, watery, fizzy mouthfeel completes the picture. It’s a rough draft to be sure, but does have potential. Hopefully this one will improve.
