Commercial Description:
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules' aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

This as all a little over the top, but what did I expect? A great aroma really, big resiny hops like a grapefruit in a sauna. It is once it gets in the mouth I found it a little heavy and almost cringingly dry. I shall not deny it has plenty of plus sides but it is far from my favourite.

Another great beer I sampled on tap at Max’s in Baltimore. The beer had a clear, rich amber-copper color with a thick, bubbly white head that had decent cling and retention. The aroma was a mix of floral and grainy hops with some mild yeast and touches of citrus and pine too. The flavor was good, a bit bitter with a touch of sour character, it had some floral and grainy citrus tones. The beer had modest carbonation, but good wetness with a dry finish. A pretty full body with some lasting cling in the mouth.

Top of the heap. Great aroma of pine, citrus as you open the bottle. Pours a dark copper like a 75 Firebird I had once. Taste is very sharp and clean. Leaves you wanting more. Way to easy to drink.

Amazing DIPA. Had it on tap at Canal Street Pub. Came serviced in a chalice. Smelled of grapefruit and other IPA goodness. The smell was intoxicating. It reminded me of a fresh Hopslam/90 Minute. Grapefruit was definitely the predominat smell here. The color was a beautiful amber color. Taste "Holy Hops" is baout all I could say. This DIPA is the perfect IPA for me. Perfect amount of hoppiness verus flavor. The hop level actaully reminded me of Ruination, in that the hops actually HURT my teeth, but in a good way. This is the BEST DIPA I’ve ever had, living on the East Coast. Recommended.

Bottle. Pours a deep, beautiful orange-copper with a lacy, off-white head. Incredible aroma of floral hops with notes of citrus and an earthy, malty background. Less hop taste than I expected, but still a solid dose along with some heavy malt flavor and hints of smoky wood. Strong alcohol finish. A very good IPA, if less hoppy than expected.
