4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Originally rated on 7/24/08. Its not for the faint of heart", Wow! they got that right, I’m glad I had another ipa before this one, otherwise my taste buds would have been decimated if this was the first beer of the day. A deep orange-amber body, minimal carbonation with tan head, all the suspended particles made it look like my glass was dirty. Aroma was very piney and floral, it remined me of canned pineapples, very sweet. It was almost to intense to enjoy the flavors of sweet nutty malts, citrus and fruit. A little too hoppy for me, but a great beer, If you enjoy a super hopped beer this one is for you

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours golden with a white head, fine lacing. American hops, citrus fruits and malt on the nose; prefigures a powerful IPA. Medium to full body, thick texture, average carbonation. Bitter in taste, no signs of alcohol whatsoever.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hefty DIPA with different hop varieties, though the bottle does not state which ones, and nor does Great Divide’s website. Bottle of about half a year of age so should still carry a lot of hop aromas. Elaborately lacing, medium thick, off-white, moussy head retaining well seen the ABV, over a deep, ’autumny’, orangey amber coloured beer with a light haze of almost invisible yeast bits through which fairly vivid sparkling pierces from the bottom upwards. Both perfumey and pungent bouquet of a ton of bitter grapefruit flesh and grapefruit peel, pine needles, cigarette tobacco, curry spices, dried ginger, salted tomato, toasted white bread, roasted pine nuts, lychee, tangerine, bitter honey, biscuit, hemp, mouldy lemon, gin, egg yolk, marmelade. Clean fruity onset with hints of mango, lychee and orange, sweetish and smooth with some very light umami touches here and there (cooked chicken) as well as a modest onset of edgy hop bitterishness already appearing; carbo remains soft, mouthfeel is supple, smooth, resinous and oily. A solid backbone of caramelly sweet and nutty malts support the hops growing in intensity from beginning to end, leading to a thoroughly bittering, spicy, chicory-, wormwood- or even tonic water-like finish with lingering salty edges, drying the back of the mouth completely so that no malt sweetness can pass through anymore. Retronasally, all these vivid pine, grapefruit, tangerine and dried spice fragrances return in full glory. Alcohol, though noticeable as a subtle warming effect after swallowing, remains well hidden for a 10% ABV beer. Not the single most overwhelming double IPA I had so far (that must have been Heady Topper), but still an extremely solid example of its style, with the flavour clearly tilted towards the hop bitterness (I guess I like my DIPAs with some more malt sweetness); in short, one for die hard hopheads, as it does not compromise on its hoppiness at all, like the label and website announce. Pine fragrance is very strong in this one as well as grapefruit (in both pink and yellow variations), it is clearly the hops which get all the credits here - surely I will have their resinous, spicy bitterness hanging around in my mouth for hours to come.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
In the glass the beer has a reddish amber color with a big head. The aroma has pine, citrus and some hops. The taste doesn’t have the big bitter bite but a good balance of resin, hops and some caramel malts. Mild carbonation with a long finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Haven’t had this beer in a while fresh but I’m guessing this one was. On tap at hienens. Pours light orange with thin, tight head. Aromas of tropical fruit and piney hops. Flavor is citrus with a bitter punch and then the alcohol kicks your buds. Finish is bitter and lasting, alcohol is definitely a big factor in the quaf ability. Descent version of a classic IIPA.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
33cl bottle. Dark brown-ruby pour with a thin, smooth tan head. Smells dank, with notes of citrus, pine and caramel. Bitter-sweet taste, well balanced except maybe for the alcohol that comes a little too powerful.
