Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules’ aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

22 oz. bottle - thanks so much to slob for the trade! Oddly enough, even though, So. California is a lot closer to Denver than Maryland is, I can’t buy Great Divide products here. Pours clear, deep orange-coppery color just as the commercial description promises, with a moderate off-white head that leaves spotty rather than substancial lace in the glass. The aroma delivers a caramel malt scent which is quickly almost completely overpowered by grapefruit and spruce hops, with a hint of alcohol noticible as well. The flavor is also dominated by the huge hop presence, again grapefruit and spruce with a big, sweet malt backbone to support and complement the lupulin lusciousness and help to hide the significant alcohol content. Full body and creamy carbonation. This is an in-your-face and quite good IIPA. Thanks Bert!

Unbelievable hoppy taste. Nutty undertones that leave a nice finish. Malts give a nice balance.

Amber color witha off white head. The taste is a full malty body with loads of hops both in aroma and on taste. Very nice double IPA

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2005 Smells of hops and citrus primarily. Pours a light copper color with a lacy white head. Flavor is in your face hops, rivals hoppiness I’ve found in really hopped IPAs like the 90 minute and whatnot. Feels a little off balance, but if you like hops this is really a beer for you. The mouthfeel is also very good, overall I’ll give this a decent rating, they deffinately did what they were trying to do with the over the top hop profile.

Poured a darker orange with a foamy off white head that laced the glass. Strong aroma of bubblegum, orange and floral hops. Strong but very balanced hop flavor, mainly due to the perfect addition of malts. Picking up some grapefruit, other citrus and a pine finish. A great imperial IPA. I think I like DFH’s 90 min a bit more. But this one is still very solid. Glad I picked this up even though I was not farmiliar with the brewery.

22-oz. bottle. Pours ruby gold with a tall rocky caramel off-white head and great spotty lacing. Sweet fruit hop and a little pine and citrus hop to join in with raspberry and berry notes. Sweet fruit hop start with a pine finish. Light to medium bodied with a clean crisp finish.

Bottle-I’m still developing my hophead tastes. I liked alot, but it was overwhelming for me. Poured a large, frothy head that reduce, lovely dark amber color, wonderful to look at. The oily feel was too much. I will try it and rate it again.

Bottle, at the brewery? Great Divide is a small production brewery. they gave an excellent tour, but are only equipeed with a few of their beers on draft. they were happy to open up bottles of anything that we wanted to try. MMM, Hercules! Enormous hop presence, enough body to carry all these hops without being malty, this is one powerhouse of a beer

Great fresh hop aroma, mixed with buttery smooth nuttiness and a palatable breadiness. Flavor is as fresh as the aroma but with double the warm round maltiness. Definite grassiness, light citrus taste - medium citrus on the actual palate. The alchohol is there in the finish but wonderfully incorporated into the hops. This is so good mainly for the ample malt - just great bready hoppy goodness.
