COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Herculesí aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Poured coppery amber color with a beautiful white as snow head...aroma is very floral with a touch of alcohol...definately a hoppy aroma...tastes a little sweet at first then you get the hops...first it is a warm wooly feeling, the it just gets bitter...bitter, and bitter...finish has a touch of alcohol, and that is way mild for 9.1%...then bitter...this is a fantastic IIPA...

Wowza, I could smell this strongly as soon as I popped the cap. Very powerful aroma. The flavor is also very powerful, possibly too powerful. Quite hot, puckeringly bitter with a very loong finish. I think this one may be at the top, if not quite over it, for me.

This is possobly the besy hop aroma I can remember (possible exception the XP pale ale) This however is not as fruity, and is more a strong floral aroma and more of a strait out hop sugarryness. Hoppyness is definately strait out of an Imperial court. This has a very nice sweetness at first, then you dont get much more because it hits you like a ton of bricks.

Cloudy orange-amber body with a light peachy cream colored head. Huge head. Smells lighly of pine hops, sugars and not much else. Taste sweet malt/ pine, alcohol and not as much hops as I had hoped for. Still, good tasting, solid brew.

Pours a beautiful, crystal clear, copper ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Nice retention and excellent lacework. The aroma exhibits a faint sweetnesss, a little fruity. Notes of grapefruit, pineapple, fir, sugar cookies, apricot and toffee. The flavor is very heavy, malty and moderately bitter from start to finish. Well-balanced for an Imperial IPA. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Lengthy, bitter, grassy finish. I like DFH 90, Ruination, and Dreadnaught better, but this is still awesome.

This is a very well done beer and excellent in the style. Pleasing amber/red/rose colors, with some head clinging. Big, beautiful, fresh citrus aroma, grapefruit, pine, vinyl plus some alcohol. Lots of depth to the flavor, with something woody beneath the blend of hop flavors. Good malts, coming through in a palate that is sticky yet retaining a bit of carbonated zing, even after a long warm-up (I canít drink this bottle that fast!) Obviously lots of bitterness, which at times seems perfectly normal and at times intrusive. Though not metallic there are some dry qualities to it and a sense that Iím chewing on some kind of plant root. I had my fill with about 1/3rd of the bottle remaining. Seems only appropriate that I drink this while the Athens 2004 Olympics are on.

The only opinion that matters is my own, right? Saying that because this one has brought up widely differing opinions in those I know. And after having two of them Iím still trying to decide EXACTLY what I think of it. Found it neither too thin nor far too unbalanced, but that said it lacks the delightful maltyness of Ruination and others. Itís okay that it be creating its own niche, but I think it could be "learned" a little more. And I might find that after having another Iím right back here to make adjustments.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2004 Very nice aroma of fresh Hops(mangos, melons, pineapple ect)with a slightly nutty malt character(think DFH)and much sweetness and some octane.Nice hazy orange color.Nice bitterness to offset the sweetness. This does deserve a spot above the 90 min(it is all around a cleaner more enjoyable IIPA but sometimes the 90 min is better(if you want a fuller IIPA)

Hazy orange out of the bottle with a quick beige head. Wonderful fresh hop aroma that reminded me of pineapple upside down cake. Big flavor with apple, pineapple and candied grapefruit rind. Lots of candi sugar sweetness with tons of very lively fresh hops. I love beers like this.

Pours a very think copper with little or no head. Aroma is of course very hoppy and the flavor is like a Carolina pine forest. Very piney and citrusy. NIce hop overpowering you expect. The swallow is chewy and thick. Lots of good stuff happining here.
