COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules’ aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Hot Hoppity bopfest. This one crashes across the tongue. Not the most balanced or beautiful, but for full frontal assault on a day when I’m looking for brash this calls my name. Not something I go grabbing all the time, but I sure have had a fair share and plan on having plenty more. Been wondering if available on tap if it might be just a tad easier going. Maybe some day I’ll find out.

Dark, barely cloudy and orange body, with a smallish white head. This is one potent beer! The aroma hits you with its powerful hops, slightly malty and banana esters. Somewhat earthy flavor, nad again, powerful hops here. Very well-balanced for the high alcohol hoppiness in this I/IPA. Bitterness is "just right", and it is gneerally very heavy. Not too sweet, and not too dry.

Cloudy straw color with minimal lace - very herbal and spicy aroma, with some yeasty mustiness, a tiny bit of sweetness (honey, toffee) - not as sweet as a lot of imperial IPAs, which is a nice change, but still malty enough to make things interesting (some caramel, grain and rolled oats give it an almost barleywine-like quality) - hoppy, but not overpowering - reminds me of 90 minute and Ruination - heavy but very drinkable.

Hazy amber color with warm orange shine. Very nice light warm yellow froth, very creamy and fluffy. Nice and inviting aroma’s of sweet cookies, honey and caramel. Later the hoppy accents are coming up. Also touches of flowers (lelies) and the pit of avocado. The taste is a little out of balance. The body is to light for the agressive bitterness. It is very tannic and has to many hints of green grape branches, korn flowers, the white part of grapefruit skin and hops. The afthertaste tuns metallic and leaves a taste of chorhexidine in the mouth.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2006 Poured a deep copper color with a thick pillowing layer of white head. The head remained the whole way down, and was the creamiest head Ive ever experienced. So good. Aroma is hops of course, but there is also some oranges and caramel present. Lots of malts in this one, wow! Starts off with some hop presence, but the silky sweet caramel malts force their way through. Finishes with some citrusy hops and some spices. Feels so great in the mouth, a great velvety thickness coats the tongue. This stuff is chewy. Yum yum give me some.

Hazy light orange, heavily carbonated to collapsing whipped-cream like head. Fully saturated nose with grapy and dusty hops as very fresh hops in the bale, faint touch of oranges and cookie malt. Outspoken hopbitter taste going over in short chocolate bitter and even metallic. Starts very aromatic but very quickly deteriorates into a very harsh, hops-essence bitterness, quinine-like or even, as lachesis said, chlorehexidine-like. Quite full bodied, bit fluffy MF. Long lasting bitternerness. Promises the world in the nose, and then tops over as a boat with an overloaded deck. Balance, gentlemen, balance. Thanks to lachesis for this bottle.

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2007 Pours out a deep amber color with a small head. It is kind of thick and flavor is very hoppy which is a taste i am starting to enjoy. Aroma has hints of pine and citrus. OVer all not bad something i would certainly like to try again.

hazy orange, tight white head. a knuckle sandwich of huge piney hops in the aroma with perfume, grapefruit and caramel. flavour follows and is super hoppy and bitter. pine dominates again with more grapefruit and toffee-ish soothing malt. a hop monster with style

Nice amber color with web-like white lacing. Aroma is sweet grapefruit, caramel and kiwi strawberries. Not that ruinous on the palate, but there’s a significant elevated hop profile. Sweet pineapple, almond crusted and grassy flavors. Hot, sweet and curling at the corners. Respectable. Thanks for getting the bottle, tpkenned!

I wondered when I’d find an IPA to challenge DFH 90 min. From the pour to the finish Hercules kicked ass. Wonderful frothy head, brilliant coloring and near perfect hop balance. I Bow down to the new king.
