Nejhleader (924), Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 10, 2009 has a nutty caramel aroma, strong bitter piney hops, hoppy after taste. fairly yummy DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA Feb 9, 2009 Bottle. Aroma that fills the room with citrus and floral. Cloudy orange amber body, small off-white head. Flavor is powerful citrus, with lovely bitterness in the foreground and in the finish. amneziak (18), Olathe, Kansas, USA Feb 8, 2009 Updated: Mar 28, 2009This is a great representative of the Double/Imperial IPAs. Its nose is packed with fragrant hops, caramelized orange peel, summer peach, and fresh pine. There are also some other pleasant floral components that find their way into this one. It pours a stunning heavy caramel orange color and is brilliantly clear. A hefty two finger head appears with a subtle rocky top and stays for just a short while. The head is an off-white yellowish color and is rather frothy. This one tastes just as you would hope, with tons of bold flavor and the immediate punch of fresh hops. It is then followed by a nice mouthful of foamy head and a creaminess that carries the flavors nicely down the throat. The only thing this one is missing is nice bit of brightness to make it feel fresher. Obviously there is bitterness here, but one that is enjoyable. It contains a nice creaminess that so many of the superior IPAs have and it sticks to the mouth nicely. This is good, because it should take you a while to drink this one. If you are in to the more potent and floral IPAs like Bell’s Hopslam, this will be a great addition to your fridge. It is also much easier to come by than the Hopslam and others. I am definitely drinking a lot of these going forward, and I am glad I have found something to drink when I want to let my dwindling stash of Hopslam hide out in the basement. SHANER4 (370), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Feb 8, 2009 12 oz. bottle - poured a copper color with medium head.
Aroma - resin hops, citrus
flavor - Tasted citrus, smoked almonds and a malt flavor I have a problem describing.
Palate - medium mouthfeel with average carbonation. Finish is slightly bitter and smokey or maybe some roasted flavor.
Overall - I was expecting more from this brew. Good beer but not great!! Aroma lacked that great hop scent and finish is boring. BrotherGrendel (551), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 8, 2009 A- Murky orange/amber hue, thin layer of white head that is sustaining, sticky lacing all over glass
S- Sweet citrus and floral hops, pine resin, caramel malts, and alcohol
T- Sour grapefruit hops followed by sweet citrus and floral tones, underlying bread and caramel malts as well as a nutty presence, finishes sweet and hoppy
M- Full-bodied, oily and slick texture coats the mouth, mild carbonation
D- Well-balanced DIPA with low alcohol presence, very drinkable but not as hoppy or bold as most Cali DIPAs Tripplebrew (486), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Feb 8, 2009 Pours a hazy dark agave honey color with egg white colored head.
