Frovigalning (388), , Sweden Sep 20, 2009 It poured a clear dark golden liquid. Had a smell of grassy hops, grape and citrus. High bitterness, grassyu hops, smooth, some bite to it. Very nice! yobdoog (1420), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Sep 18, 2009 Every time I have this I find it to be pretty solid. Aroma is balanced. Lost of hops with caramel and grain. Good body and juicy hop flavor. Some caramel malts and citrus flavor. Grapefruit and lemon zest. Balanced. natejgood (188), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 14, 2009 The beer pours a medium golden color with an almost orange tint in the lights. The white head is adequate and seems to build from below. The aroma of this beer is almost all crisp hops up front and heavy. There is a bit of fruit and sweetness mixed in, but you really have to look for it to find it among the hops. The flavor is more complex than many overhopped IPAs. While there is definitely a strong hop content, there are also strong overtones of malt, toffee, molasses and raisons. Considering the high alcohol and the huge flavor this beer is still pretty easy to drink and feel relatively crisp in the mouth. This been is probably a bit strong to be an everyday drinking beer it is definitely a nice treat from time to time. TheGrandMaster (1846), Auckland, New Zealand Sep 14, 2009 Bottle (in NZ). Pours a dark copper with a very large foamy yellowish head. Woody and fruity on the nose, some sweet toffee and a touch of bubblegum. A well balanced aroma for a DIPA. Not surprisingly, a big mouthfeel with bready malt. Again, the flavours are well balanced, I’m surprised by the floralness over the fruitiness. Very different to the West Coast IPAs, and better for it. jlruthven (134), Milledgeville, Georgia, USA Sep 14, 2009 Can’t believe I haven’t tried this before now. Bottle poured into a snifter; dark orange with amber hints, and a huge fluffy white head that never went away (beer’s been gone for 30 minutes, actually, and the head’s still there). Nose is candied melon, blood orange, grapefruit, with freshly wettened pine needles on the back end. Tastes of ripe orange and pine; intensely floral, with massive hops. One of the most velvety mouthfeels on a IIPA I’ve ever tried. Absolutely marvelous. DWestrick (234), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 12, 2009 bottle. amazing imperial ipa in bottle - also had on tap at the great divide in denver. so smooth for nearly 10%. loved it CitizenZ (18), Kansas, USA Sep 11, 2009 Beautiful amber pour into one and a half inch off-white head, which dissolved slowly and left bountiful lacing around the lip of my tulip. Has a delightful citrus smell, like canned tangerines. The beer is smooth despite its moderate carbonation and has noticeable but not prominent yeast tones and I didn’t notice the alcohol as I have in other big beers. It enters the mouth with a bold, rich maltiness with moderate hops that become more and more prominent through the finish. Its less rowdy than say, a Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA, but a way better balance. Best enjoyed with a Clint Eastwood classic like "Hang ’em High." arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 8, 2009 Hercules was a clear, golden amber color when poured into my snifter. There was a short off white head. It smells like crispy hops and sweet syrup. There is definitely some hop bitterness but not straight "hoppy". I really prefer citrus and pine in my DIPA’s.There was some malty caramel balance and not a hint of alcohol. The mouthfeel was sticky and chewy. This is good stuff; too bad Great Divide raised their growler prices :( .
