Commercial Description:
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules' aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Pours deep copper color with a creamy head. Strong hoppy aroma, yet very sweet. Lots of caramel on the nose. Similar hoppy and well-balanced malty flavor. Soft and creamy palate. Terrific!

Flavor is big hops (of course) that range from citrusy to earthy, but I wasn’t necessarily picking up the usual piney type of flavors. The malt backbone is reasonably balanced, but leans towards hops... the malt hits on cream, caramel, slight nuts, and a bit of roast. All in all, not bad, but not my favorite!

On tap. This is a good DIPA. It’s aroma is hoppy and mouthfeel is a bit chewy. Could use a tad more malt to balance but not bad. Taste is a little sweet and alcohol is well hidden. Excellent lacing. Nice beer!

Bottle @ GBBF 2009. A clear golden colored beer, with a light beige head. The aroma of hops, with fruits and flowers. There are spices in the back. The taste of bitter hops, dry and fruits like citrus and mango. Flavors of nuts with some spices. The aftertaste is bitter and dry, with some sweet and spices.

Bottle at the GBBF 2009. Wow, what a beer. Excellent subtle aroma of pine and flowers and is that candle wax I smell? A creamy palate with well-balanced flavours of sweet, bitter and grass. Gorgeous.

Bottled 355ml. Ordered from crackedkettle.com. It pours a bautiful, slightly hazy deep copper beer with a small bubbly light beige head. Quinces, mango, lychee, walnuts, raisins, mint, liquorice allsorts and a lot of blueberries showing up in the aroma. Surprisingly sweet taste. Nice balance between malt and hops. Decent bitterness. Hints of blueberries, liquorice allsorts, caramel, figs, walnuts, mango, pine needles and strawberries in the flavor. Peppery components emerging on the swallow. Complex and full bodied. Syrupy. Subtle carbonation. Some lacework. Long peppery finish which is reminiscent of licorice, mint and hop resin. Not a great example of a Double IPA.

Pours dark marmalade, with plenty of sediment swirling around the bottom of the glass. Little head, but some lacing, and a fairly pungent aroma of fragrant malt and sweet hops. Lively on the tongue, with toffee, caramel and citrus to the fore, and characteristic hoppy tail. Medium-bodied, and a very decent IPA with it.

12 oz. bottle.Nice IIPA. Pours a dark copper with virtually no head, and a lot of yeast. Aroma is nicely hoppy, mostly on pine, with a good malt base. The flavor is Very nicely balanced, a good hoppiness with a solid malt balance to cut down the bitterness. Mouthfeel is pretty thick and chewy.
