Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Herculesí aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Rated 3/15/13. Thanks to Jay for the 12 oz bottle! Poured into a generic tulip. A: Pours a reddish copper color. The head is a one finger offwhite shade. Definitely an attractive DIPA with a nice amount of lacing left on the glass. S: There is a lot of caramel, plummy expressions, and faint pine on the nose. Surely, this one is past its prime. T: A sweet caramel opening gives way to plenty of earthy, boozy, and piny qualities on the finish and aftertaste. Past its prime? Yeah - even still, Iím impressed by how balanced and mellow this one comes across. The boozy notes in no way ruin my moderate enjoyment of this one. M: The texture is medium, and thankfully isnít too syrupy or boozy either way. It also lacks some of the sharpness some DIPAs develop - but to be fair, this IS an older bottle. O: Quite good, considering its advanced age. Fresh, this is one to keep an eye on.

Nice aroma full of sweet caramel, exotic fruit, and toffee. Similar taste; almost like barley wine. Very well-balanced aftertaste. Plus for the fine crown. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to pint glass. No detailed notes - entering from earlier tasting. Strong caramel and malt characteristic and a well hidden ABV.

Drank from the bottle 81 days after bottled, weak floral aroma, taste is nothing special. Really just your average IPA, nothing special at all. Reminded me a lot of Racer 5 IPA, not bad, but nothing to get too excited about. The high alcohol content is masked well in the taste though. Probably would not buy again, but overall a good beer.

Appearance is a hazy, orangey amber, a one finger light beige creamy head. Aroma- quite a lot of caramel, malty sweetness, malt bread, hops, fruit juice, hint of lemon. Much more malt-forward than other IIPAs. Taste- bitter, juicy hops, solid malt backbone- bread, hint of toffee and even sugary raisin, alcohol definitely detectable in this one. Sticky mouthfeel- sugary hop resins, and a very long, bitter, resiny finish. Very interesting IPA.

Growler from Joe Canalís in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Pours a honey gold color with a large bubbly beige head. Piney grapefruit hop nose. Upfront, flavor is huge of citrus, with hints of tangerine, lemon and grapefruit. Futher sips yield a caramel malt backbone with notes of pine and more citrus. For a Double IPA at 10% ABV, this drinks very smooth and easy. Midtaste brings earthy malt with resiny hops. Spicy bitter hop finish. Big and flavorful, a nice IIPA and a must try.

#34 for July 4th poured an amber color with aromas of floral hops and malt. Flavors are floral hops and booze with some light cardboard. Meh not that great lots of booze in this and mildly sweet.

"Accidental" target at Standard Market. Warm alcohol smell brings good tidings of much hops. Alcohol comes in cost, a bit hot, and it makes the hops taste like they might be aging out like a cellared 90-Minute. while still a great strong IPA, in this case the taste canít match up to the expectation of the nose.
