Commercial Description:
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules' aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Murky orange with a large head. Very sweet citrus nose, oranges, grapefruit, pine, and a little gum. Very full and balanced nose, bright and sharp flavor initially. When this beer was first release back in 2003 or 2004, I could not stand it... it was disorganized, rough, raw, unfinished and sickening to drink. Glad to say they’ve clean it up quite a bit. Now it has some deifnite smoothness, has some massively chewy pine sap and hop/cannibus flavors, and just smells delightful.

HOPS! Pours a deep orange-amber color with a solid head that thickly coats the glass as you drink. Good hopping aroma, cirtic and pine and a hint of the floral. Bitter hopping almost overrides the malts completely, but they’re there. Great bitter, grapefruit-ish finish. You don’t notice the abv until you’re done.

Copper color with a dense off white head. Aromas of green, earthy hops and sweet caramel background. Somewhat "raw" aroma for lack of a better term. Slick and full feel. Full caramel flavors with a later backdrop of citric and acidic hops. Alcohol very well hidden. For some reason this seemed just under some of the premier IIPAs I’ve had.

Bottle@Home. Strong floral and malty aroma. Dark amber color, beige firm head, very nice lace. Sweet, bitter, malty, floral, very hoppy of course. Syrupy and thick. Very flavorful, but it’s too much of everything. When I had my first IIPA I was impressed/surprised but by now ... I really wouldn’t like to drink a 2nd bottle of this stuff.

Bottle @ RBSG 04’ Grand Tasting
Aroma of pine and cat piss with dry caramel. The flavor is sweet, light bitterness & jolly rancher watermelon. Finishes well-rounded, horrible aroma that really turned me off to this one.

Bottle, at RBESG grand tasting, August 2005. Hazy orange colour. Intense grapefruit and pine aroma & flavour. The aroma is sweetish, but its quite tart of the palate. There’s not much other than the hops here, but its a very fine example.

Bottle. Great Divide has come big with this brew. Dark amber cloudy hue with average frothy off-white head. Heavy hop and medium malt aroma. Moderate bitter flavor with a balanced long finish. Very good full body brew.

Bottle. Amber colour with a small white head. Hoppy aroma with hints of pine needles. Malty and very hoppy flavor, hints of pine needles and citrus. Long hoppy aftertaste. A very nice one.
