k4df4l (148), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 3, 2007 Bottle - Pours a dirty copper with a thin head that dissipates to just enough to skim the surface quickly. Lots of yeasty chunky sediment in the bottle. Aroma is hops, sweet malts and heat. Flavor is similar, initially sweet malts and hops, citrusy and resinous that yeilds to a light alcohol flavor and creamy finish with just enough hop spice lingering on your tongue to invite that next sampling.
coldbrewky (525), Saugerties, New York, USA Nov 30, 2008 Amber golden with a dense off white head. Sticky but patchy lacing. Nose is carmelly hops. Mouth and body are dominated as expected by burly bitter and piney hops. Hops are slightly offset by a medium malty body. Sweet/caramel ping pongs off the even toned hops from start to finish. but gets deliciously bitter quickly. Lots of pine resin, and grapefruit. Medi
um body, slightly dry. Became sweeter and more balanced as it warmed. Travlr (115), Washington, Washington DC, USA Nov 28, 2008 HOPS!!!!! An over-the-top extreme HOPPY beer with an aroma of HOPS. Big HOPPY flavor with a finish of....HOPS!!! You can try this beer, or can snort pure hops powder, your choice. GAManiac (446), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 28, 2008 Pours a very hazy golden amber with a small bubbly head that doesn’t stick around very long and leaves only traces of lacing.
The smell is dominated by citrus and grassy hops up front with a big bready malt presence as well.
This may be an older bottle as the taste was dominated by the malts and sugary sweetness with the citrus hops more of a complementary aspect. There is also a little bit of booze heat int he finish as well.
The mouthfeel is fairly full-bodied for the style and sticky with the mixture of sweetness and hop resin.
I enjoyed this bottle though, as I said, it may be a bit old and I may try a fresher bottle next time to see if the hops are bigger in the taste. Still, it’s a very good DIPA.
