Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Herculesí aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Poured from a 650ml bottle dated July 22, 2005. Very cloudy appearance in an orange amber color-nice. Creamy foamy 1 finger head that leaves plenty of sticky lacing throughout with a bit of sediment. Smells grassy, hoppy, sort of malty and also sweet with sticky notes again. There is also a bit of citrus/grapefruit notes detected. Tastes largely of hops, but not too strong and bitter. I feel like the 10% ABV can be detected near the end of each taste. The malt presence is stronger than I would have thought and the grapefruit notes are much stronger than in the smell. Medium body mouthfeel overall. Smooth for all of the ABV and as much of a hopbomb that this is supposed to be. Because it is so strong in its flavors and with a 10% ABV, I donít think that I could drink alot of these over and over. Overall, I thought that it was a good DIPA, but not as outstanding as I would have expected. Iíll try it again as it has a great reputation (and maybe the age of my bottle had something to do with not completely overwhelming me) but I wouldnít say that it is the best DIPA that I have ever had.

Hazy, dark amber beer with a smooth, off-white head and a sharp, aroma of hoppy grapefruit. Taste is grapefruity as well, though thereís a bit of a citrus blend in there. Itís not all bitter and hoppy though. Thereís a good, grounded maltiness there too and an airy, floral feel to the backtaste. Really good.

Clear, copper brown colour with some tan frothing on top. Rich, malty aroma, sweetness, brown sugar. Complex taste, with not too overpowering hops. Slightly bitter finish. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation. Very good and well-rounded double ipa.

Smells of tons of tropical fruits, some floral and malt scent on the back. Really deep copper in color. Taste of sweet fruits with a touch of malt bitter dry finish that lingers for a bit which I liked. Med body sticky mouth feel. Nice carbonation that stays throughout the flavor profile. Love the sweetness and bitterness that are so well balanced in the great IPA. Nice work!

Keg. Pours pale brown which suddenly shines golden when held to the light. Solid eggshell head. Smells of treacle and biscuits. Initially I just got a sweet mess of malts and waxy bitterness. Persevered and there is a complex floral hoppy character there but itís fighting the malts and not allowed to shine.

1/2 at Brewdog Edinburgh. Pours copper/gold, good lacing. Floral but also resin nose. Moderate carbonation. Big floral and citrus hit on the initial taste, with a bit of pine on the follow through. Stupidity drinkable for the abv. A proper IPA no argument. Bravo!

Pours copper with a medium white head. Thereís some red berries on the nose, quite juicy. Quite a juicy start to the beer with a full on punch in the face bitterness.

On tap in brewdog Nottingham. Excellent dipa, really surprised by the smooth taste, the label says 10 % alc. But could not feel this power at all. One of the best so far.

Poured from a bottle. Copper amber with a medium brownish head. Smells of medicine, spice, pineapple, not the most appealing combination. Has a wonderful taste, extremely well balanced, sweet but not over sweet and just the right bitter. Excellent in spite of the aroma.

Tap pour into smaller than it should be 10 oz glass at City Works with commonshawn. Copper color with a more evident reddish hue. Very little head but looks like itís an off white. Nose has some standard IPA qualities with some pine, citrus, and dankness (for lack of a better term). Taste has a healthy malty backbone more pronounced than other imperial IPAs. Hoppy bitterness is definitely present especially as it nears completing of the sip. Alcohol presence felt...strong. Kind of funny this was served up in such a small glass given the name and the alcohol hit. In general, feels a little overrated on this site. Still very good.

Brewdog Camden. Wasnít too impressed with this. Aroma was kind of soapy even, taste showed the high alcohol.
