Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules’ aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Poured from a 650ml bottle dated July 22, 2005. Very cloudy appearance in an orange amber color-nice. Creamy foamy 1 finger head that leaves plenty of sticky lacing throughout with a bit of sediment. Smells grassy, hoppy, sort of malty and also sweet with sticky notes again. There is also a bit of citrus/grapefruit notes detected. Tastes largely of hops, but not too strong and bitter. I feel like the 10% ABV can be detected near the end of each taste. The malt presence is stronger than I would have thought and the grapefruit notes are much stronger than in the smell. Medium body mouthfeel overall. Smooth for all of the ABV and as much of a hopbomb that this is supposed to be. Because it is so strong in its flavors and with a 10% ABV, I don’t think that I could drink alot of these over and over. Overall, I thought that it was a good DIPA, but not as outstanding as I would have expected. I’ll try it again as it has a great reputation (and maybe the age of my bottle had something to do with not completely overwhelming me) but I wouldn’t say that it is the best DIPA that I have ever had.

Aroma is pine and citrus, taste is pine, citrus, lots of hop bitterness, sweet malt backbone, alcohol is somewhat present. I wish it had a higher abv (12%) and a little more malt presence, would make this a 5/5.

Poured from a bomber bottle dated on Dec 13, 2013 Aroma - constant orange peel aroma, a little piney Appearance - very clear amber/reddish color. Thick egg shell head with nice lacing Taste - very well balanced between malt and hops. Nice lingering taste. I thought it was going to be a orangey zest bomb, but it is a solid tasting beer. Palate - medium mouthfeel. Leaves a nice after taste Overall - I was worried this bottle sat too long, but it has really held up nicely.

This is a great beer. Well balanced. I have just started enjoying IPAs and I have to say this is going to be a favorite. The hop flavor lingers for quite awhile after taking sips. Great for your average hop head.

On tap at copperheads. Pours a decent golden color with hints of red. Not much smell. Minimal hops. Taste is a lot different. Hoppy as hell in the front end, dry in the back end. You can taste the high abv. Pretty decent beer but I could only have one. Def wrecks the palate.

Heavy pine aroma with citrus and a hint of floral. It is cooper-orange in the glass with a little bit of lacing. It has a strong piney taste, with rind, plenty of hops, with a bitter kick.

Pours amber with nice head and lacing. Aroma of pine, citrus hops and toffee sugar. Taste is the same with strong bittering at the end. Very nice.

Pours copper color with white head. Sweet candy caramel aroma with fruity citrus finish. Flavor starts off sweet syrupy candy caramel malt followed by fruity mango and citrus flavors finishing with a big citrus hoppiness. Another fantastic offering from Great Divide.

Pours a cloudy apricot with a minimal slight white head. Well-balanced flavor of hops, fruitiness and malt. Higher abv also is not overwhelming. A very solid, well balanced IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
