English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Fruity. Long aftertaste. A bit sour in a nice way. Not a lot of carbon. A nice evening at Mallaskukkko, Turku, Finland

12 oz bottle poured. Pours a dark brown color with a bubbly head. Smooth rich malt flavor with a nutty finish. A lot of flavor in this one, and it lingers forever. Subtle hops throughout, as well as some brown sugar, maple, and a little chocolate. Aroma is a ton of sweet malt. I nice warming beer here. Enjoyed this.

Keg at BD Sheps Bush. It pours deep red-brown with a medium beige head. The nose is rich, toasty caramel, fruit cake, raisin, wood, toffee and leather. The taste is smooth, toasty, bitter-sweet, caramel, light alcohol, leather, varnish, earth, mild spice and cocoa with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Smooth, well rounded and quaffable. Very good.

1/2 pint @ brewdog bar. Body is dark red brown, head is medium creamy beige average lasting excellent lacing. Nose is roasty, aroma is roasted peanuts, coffee, licorice, soy sauce. Light sweet, heavy roasty bitter. Finish is long lasting roasty bitter, light alcohol warmth. Full body, sticky texture, soft carbonation. Not too easy, excellent dessert beer.

Tap at BrewDog Liverpool. Hazy dark reddish brown. Tan head. Lots of coffee and dark, toasty, earthy malts in the aroma. Taste is much the same: toasty and caramelised. Hint of red grape in the background. Decent stuff but not quite in line with how I expect a beer of this style to be.

holy smokes, this stuff is strong - with (at least) three months of aging, you get plenty of coffee, dark malt, caramel hazelnuts, cocoa, molasses, licorice, and vanilla flavours. I find this a bit out of balance - very powerful aromas, lacks elegance.

Growler. Pours clear dark brown with no head. Aromas of nutty flavours, caramel, malts, chocolate. Taste is alike with some honey-like sweet notes.

355ml bottle from ,I think, cornelius. Pours clear nut-brown, long-lasting off-white head. Aromas of coffee, cocoa, hazelnuts. Taste is nutty more cocoa, light almond booze hit. Warming finish. Not bad.

Nice big malty hoppy swamp with bready, funky, almost Belgian overtones. Great rich lacing. A beast but real smooth like. Top drawer from GD as ever here.
