COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Bottle, 13C. Deep brown with a fat coat of beige head. Rich nutty aroma with chocolate, toasty caramel, some dried fruit, oranges and herbs. Intriguing, fairly boozy. On the full side of medium bodied, lowish carbonation. Sweet and malty with more caramel than chocolate or nuts. Lacks a bit of bottom end rumble. Fairly firm bitterness slides through. Some bitter oranges, licorice and spices at the end. Smells great, lacks a bit of presence and character in the middle.

Keg at Brewdog Shep’s Bush. Aroma is charred maple coated meat, brown sugar, roast. Opaque bit clear reddy brown coloured pour with a lasting cream coloured head. Flavour is charred meat, very sweet, unrefined sugars, maple sryup. Palate is sweet, velvety and moderate carbonation. Lingering brown malts and smoked meat.

Pours a dark, hazy caramel with moderate head that dissipates over time. Light aroma that intensified as this beer warmed a bit - roasty malt and slightly sweet. Full bodied with light carbonation. Roasted malt flavor with a bit of sweetness. Not my favorite style or beer, but glad I tried it. Good sipping beer and would probably not drink more than one in a night.

Bottle at home from McHugh’s, Dublin
hazy dark chestnut brown with beige lacing. Fruity red apple and biscuit. Lively carbonation, full bodied, dry, toasty, vegetal, warming. No wow factor like other GD beers
