4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Had at the brewery during 2006 GABF, Dark brown with a nice tan head that lasted a good long time. Nice aroma of rasin and fruity tones and a hint of alcohol. A wonderful complex beer with a candy fruit, carmel and slight hop bitterness. Finishes well with warming alcohol.

Regretfully, I had to chug this one in a space of two minutes, but what I had, I liked. The aroma is spicy, with a bit more in the way of piney hops than I would have imagined, some caramel from the roasted malts, and a hint of alcohol. The mouthfeel is solid but subdued, with medium viscosity and low carbonation, which made for excellent drinkability (Iím usually not one to drink very quickly). The taste is interesting: a little bit of dark-malt sweetness, some woody and hop bitterness, and what I could only describe as oily hop saltiness. The result is a somewhat cough-syrupesque palate, but in a good way. Iíll come back to it.

a: brown with maple hues. a finger of cream falls quickly leaving a central cap over excellent clarity leaving spots of lace.
S: Malt is nice and strong here with hints of tea and brown sugar.
T: Nice and malty with a hint of vegetable flavor - seriously would pair perfect with unpeeled mashed potatoes.
M: Semi dry after a wet and thin beer with prickly carb.
O: Good beer. Bready and nice.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours an abyssal amber with a quickly dissipating head. Smells of rich sweet roasted malts. The taste is full upfront and fades slowly to a rich bitter aftertaste. The combined smell and taste really packs an interesting punch. The feel is a little bubbly for such a bold ale. Would drink again. Recommend pairing with a sweeter or fruity dish with little spices.

Nice dark brown pour with some tan head that persisted with some sheeting on the glass. Started off with some roasted malts and a tinge of coffee or chocolate. As this guy warmed up it got even better. The flavors smoothed out and I found myself questioning if this was actually a stout. Wonderful beer, one I need every time it starts snowing. Probably one of my favorite winter seasonals.
