4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle. Hibernation Ale easily makes it onto my list of favorite ales. First, it is beautiful to look at. It has a rich, ruby color. It has a frothy, off-white head that stays around for quite some time and leaves intricate lacing in its wake. The body is clear and sparkles with excellent carbonation. Drinking it in the Trappist glass suggested by RateBeer.com seems to greatly highlight its visual attributes.
The aroma is of heavy malts, with molasses at the forefront. Dark fruits of plum, prune, and a hint of cherry are also present, as well as a spiciness. The flavor follows suit. It is a well-balanced blend of malts and hops, sweet and bitter, although there is a presence of slightly too much alcohol and a slight burnt wood flavor that are the only faults. But, the spices, which I cannot quite place help to alleviate some of that harshness. The body is good in the mouth and on the tongue. A nice warming quality is bolstered by the vibrant carbonation. I would have to agree with others that this would be a good candidate for the beer cellar. Another year or two would diminish some of the minor alcohol and burnt wood imperfections and make the rest of the great flavors really shine.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This beerís aroma was strongly reminiscent of roasted malts and clove, and the appearance combined a brownish red color and a small off-white head. Indeed, these first impressions prepare you completely for the taste, which is quite sour, slightly sweet, and a touch umami, as well as the palate, full body, thin texture, soft carbonation, and long finish. Although it wasnít be best beer out there, it was still really enjoyable and pleasant.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
This one is great! Pours a dark amber with a fleeting head. Nice clinging lace around the glass. Aroma is nutty and of toasted malts. Taste is toasted malts and smooth, creamy nutty character. Itís somewhat sweet and only faintly bitter. The complexity of the finish on your palate as it fades is super nice. Yum!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle at home. Pours dark brown with a small white head. Smell is malts and a bit alcohol. Taste is alcohol, some small nut and barley malts. Aftertaste is pretty long lasting and there is some small hop influens but what comes mostley is the alcohol what i think is not a bad thing in a Old Ale beer. Itís wery nice beer for a cold winter night like it is right now. Great Divide has never faild at least those beers i have tasted from them.
