Commercial Description:
Hibernation Ale is Colorado's original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide's winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation's massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Bottle bought @ MicroBar. Pours mahogany with thin head. Aroma is malty / coffee / dark chocolate / slight hops. Taste is coffee / malts / honey / molasses / dark fruits with hops coming through in the aftertaste. Nice beer.

06 VIntage. Poured ruby amber color with small off white head. Aromas of malt, caramel, and some hops. Flavor was really smooth with almost a cherry taste. Alcohol is not present at all and damn, really liked this one.

Nose is full of coffee, milk chocolate, burnt toffee and maple syrup. Deep garnet amber color with a think long lasting frothy tan head. Rich malty sweet taste that transitions nicely through bitterness and warming alcohol providing excellent balance. Full bodied, medium carbonation, with a long mapley nutty warming alcohol finish. A superb beer, one of the best winter seasonal available.

bottle 2007(last winter) poured a light brown color with an off white head that fell quickly. aroma has dark caramel malt, nuts, and light hops. medium thick mouth feel with lighter carbonation. flavor is boldly malted, light roast, caramel sweetness, bitter resinous hops, and coffee. this has really mellowed nicely but is still bold and chewy. finish is lasting and well malted.

This has a beautiful deep red color with a thin residual head. The aroma is full of toffee, grains, and malt. The body is full and tastes of malty goodness, with only mild bitterness underneath. It finishes with a malty, grainy aftertaste. This graininess isn’t quite a barnyard wet blanket flavor, but a subtle form of that. The alcohol is slightly noticeable and contributes to the experience. Overall it’s a very tasty, interesting beer.
