Mr_Stitch (138), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours a nice dark brown with red highlights, thick tan head that disappears relatively quickly and leaves good lacing around the glass. Aroma is wonderful, filled with the smells of roasted nuts, malts, coffee, and cocoa. The taste is more of the same, an excellent blend of malts, roasted nuts, coffee, and cocoa that falls off into a clean crisp aftertaste with just a hint of alcohol. The initial mouthfeel is almost like its going to be thick and syrupy but end up being clean and tart leaving you wanting another sip. This is a great ale that I will be enjoying every winter from here on out.

Drink4Satan (468), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Aug 23, 2008 Pours a deep amber/crimson colour with a small creamy beige that fades quickly. The nose is dominated by toffee notes with toasted bready malts and hints of cocoa. The flavour brings fourth a nice piney hop bitterness atop a rich coffee, toffee and roasty chocolate malt backbone. The finish is long and roasty with delicious coffee and toasty bread flavours with citric hops overlain. The body is medium/full with soft carbonation and a drying finish. downender (1532), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Aug 23, 2008 Bottle from Utobeer. Reddish amber in colour with a slight, off-white head. Malty aroma of powdered chocolate, dried fruit and spice, with a lot of pine hops. Big mouth feel, leaving a coating of chocolate. Spade loads of malt collide head on with grapefruit hops, before a long dry finish with plenty of warming alcohol. Too extreme and disjointed for me.
