3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured a deep amber with a nice head. Aroma gives off hints of toffee, roast and prunes. Tastes toffee up front, with a nice bitterness and ends roasty and toasty with some molasses notes. This is a nice malty drink and definitely has the old ale feel on the palate. Great beer.

355 mL bottle. Coppery in colour, with a film of head. Very meaty/malty in the nose. It manages to smell big without a whiff of booze. There is a little booze in the flavour, which adds some complexity. This one is, I don’t know, a cross between a doppelbock and an alt. Interesting.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Nice malty sweetness in the aroma with burnt overtones, clear hints of cacao.. Almost black and head dies down rather quick, but there is a light brown thin top left.
Taste is complex, a lively first feel, some sweetness, a bit of caramel, nice bitterness and a long lingering finish with a warm and cocky feeling, well needed on a dark November evening.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours dark reddish brown with a small thin tan head. Nose is must, toasted and malty. Taste is leather with a porter feel to it. This is certainly not my favorite example of the style. Not bad but there are many better beers out there.

From site: English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time. 8.1% ABV through 2008 8.7% ABV in 2009

This beer is delicious. One of the best old-style ale’s I’ve had. It pours dark brown with a little splotchy head. The aroma is sweet spices, nutmeg, pears, pecans, other winter notes. The flavor is wonderful. Big caramel and tea qualities, with some citrus on the finish, and a boozy blast of vapor in the nose. Godamn good beer.
