3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours with a frothy amber-tan colored head that is a finger thick. The beer is a clear deep amber color that shows a deep ruby color when held up to the light. The aroma is quite malty with notes of caramel and toffee up front moving to a dry lightly roasted note. Tastes like a toasty brown ale. Perhaps there is a bit of cherry like fruit character as well, but this is fairly subdued.
The beer has a medium full heft to it, but does not really coat the mouth too much. The beer is lightly sweet with notes of toffee and a light molasses. The finish is a mix of toasted malt notes, a bit of coffee, and a roast grain character. There is a combination of the sweet malt notes and the slight alcohol heat in the finish.
This beer is actually quite nice. The malt character is refreshingly unhoppy, and makes for a great sipping beer.

Aroma of sweet malt, spice, booze, oak and not much else. Not a great scent; I was expecting better. Looks much better than it smells, pouring out a dark ruby/brown color with a small off white cap of foam. Tastes like a malt bomb at first, then some hop sharpness comes creeping in. Very well balanced and drinkable. Again, like the aroma I was expecting more and I’m a little underwhelmed. Palate is thin. I don’t get it with this one; I must be missing something.

Pours a reddish brown with khaki head. Head dissipates quickly. Aroma - biscuit, molasses, touch of hops. Taste - coffee, molasses, caramel. Carbonation is tingly and finish is quite long (bitter dark malt).

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught at Bishops Arms Gamla Stan, Stockholm.
Very dark copper body, with a big, stable, creamy, dark beige head.
Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, nuts, wood, some ash, dark and dried fruits and subtle hops.
Taste with about the same aromas, but with much more fruity and piney hops and more nuts.
Full, creamy mouthfeel, with a lively carbonation.
Finishes roasty, dry, wooden.
Quaffable! Full, roasty, but also very hoppy and overall very smooth. Like a lighter, more drinkable and less complex Barley Wine. Enjoyed this a lot!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at Arichie’s. Clear, medium red-brown with a thick tan head. Aroma is very malty, sweet, dark fruit, caramel, sugary. A bit of alcohol on the nose, but not bad. Flavor follows the aroma closely with the sugary maltiness, raisins and plums, but doesn’t have the alcohol as evident. Palate is good, very heavy and not harsh with the carbonation. Overall a nice winter beer.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured a 12oz bottle into a nonic pint glass. Mostly clear mahogany colour, redder when held to the light, beige foam which quickly subsided, some lasting lace. Bready, nutty, toasty, some stout-like roasty traits, not very malty in terms of residual sweetness. Strong bitterness and earthy English-style hop flavour. Mildly tart and acidic, medium body and carbonation, lingering tannic grapeskin and woodsy aftertastes. Alcohol is definitely pronounced, and not exactly smooth. Not a truly representative English Old Ale in my opinion, but fairly tasty in its own rite.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
It pours brown with a minimal head. It has molasses aromas with alcohol, and a minimal bit of hops. It has a rich texture of a bit of lively carbonation a combination of malt and alcohol and it warms the palate.

Damn fine olde ale. Robust and malty goodness. Well balanced with a complex hop profile and warm hearty character.
