4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Enjoyed on tap at the Wild Goose in Chicago, IL prior to seeing Zero Dark Thirty. Appearance is a dark, thick caramel with a rich white head that laces to the glass. Aroma is very rich in caramel malt, snells boozey, pretty much like a barley wine. Taste is less abrasive than a barley wine and goes down pretty smooth, with dark fruit and caramel malt notes. Very enjoyable, quality brew.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bottle into snifter. Dark pour with not much of a head, and that quickly faded to a tiny ring, but a surprising amount of lace. Aromas are bread, coffee, roasty, barnyard, cheese, earthy and malt. Taste is rich malt, with a fine balance of sweet, bitter and smoky salt. Full creamy body and texture with hints of stickiness. Carbonation is lively. Long finish. A really, really nice winter ale. Would love to cellar some of this but not sure I could leave it alone to age!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
355ml bottle, hazy dark reddish brown colour, medium frothy mostly lasting beige head, excellent lacing. Aroma of lime, coal with notes of licorice, herbs and chocolate. Taste is initially sweet and slightly salty turning into a moderately bitter longish finish with a lightly astringent and alcoholic feel. Full body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Very pleasant dark ale, didnít seem that complex but it could be a bit too cold.
