COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Bottle. Darkish amber with big tan foam. Aroma is chocolate, butterscotch, citrus and sweet dark dried fruit. Taste is similar to the aroma;chocolate, caramel, butterscotch and piney and citrusy hops. Mainly a sweet beer but with a nice citrusy bitter aftertaste. Full body, creamy and sticky texture, soft carbonation, bitter finish that gets a tad astringent at the end. A little alcoholic is noticable but not disturbing and only adding to flavor complexity. Overall; I like this a lot, malty , citrusy and the way I love my american beers

Mørk brun, nesten sort med to fingre høyt lys brunt skum. Lukter papp, trevirke, kakaopulver, kaffe og noe melkesjokolade. Smaker toast, sjokolade og kakao også her, samt skarp alkohol. Middels lang alkohol i avslutning.

Klart rødbrunt med lavt, hvitt skum. Herlig duft med kaffe, mokkabønner, mørk karamell og noen ubestemmelige frukttoner. Markant bitterhet i smaken som består av grapefrukt, bitter sjokolade og kaffe. Denne satt!

Poured from 12 oz bottle into tulip glass. Appearance: 2"+ tan head falls slowly with plenty of lacing. Color is dark reddish-brown. Plenty of streaming carbonation. Aroma: rich roasted barley and a definite citrus rind hop background. Mouthfeel: medium bodied and slightly astringent, dry finish. Flavor: dark fruit flavors, raisins, caramel, and molasses along with citrus rind. Overall: very well done.

Pours a clear(!) deep brown to copper body, with a beige head that ends up as a partially covering film, good lacing. Malty, sweet and strong aroma of milk chocolate, chocolate sauce, lightly roasted malt, hints of hops and a light fruitiness, all upon a sugary background. Strong flavour of massive chocolate that lasts all the way into the aftertaste, dark caramel, roasted malt, generic fruits and citrus. A complex background of dark dried fruits, pine needles (especially in the long-lasting moderate to heavy bitter chocolate finish) and hints of rosemary. Moderate sweet initial taste. Medium body, smooth texture, very soft carbonation consisting of tiny bubbles. Brilliant!
