Fantastic beer with a unique flavor and lots of it, especially for a lager. The lack of hops bitterness makes this beer very drinkable.

Very good taste and would go great with a sweet KC style barbecue. Can’t wait to try the other Great Divide beers.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: SEP 6, 2012 Fits the description well. Malt notes, slight cherry, hoppiness, feint rye. Very very slight spiceness, I would have preferred more per the description. Initial smell a little too sweet. Poured beautifully. Tried 1, I’ll roll through a 6r later this week. Excellent mid-range beer. A little light, a little dark. Blends so well together. My theory after reading some reviews, if cherry is tart to you, you may not like it. If you’re a big cherry fan it will be a slight cherry non-tart, solid malty, rye touch to calm it down, favorable experience. One of my all-time favorites.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a mug. The label has a nice description of the beer as well as a "Bottled On" date of Mar 4 2010 and an ABV of 6.2%.
Appearance: Its body has a brilliant red color with a very slight haze. The head is nice and tall, about two fingers and off white in color. It is creamy and slow fading. A small cap hangs on till the very end and makes nice lace patterns on the way down the glass.
Smell: Right away I get lots of rye malty notes. Deeper into the aroma there are notes of fruity notes of ripe peaches, nectarines and black cherries.
Taste/Palate: The solid medium body has a very tasty bready rye malty character with some light toasted notes as well as hints of coco and fruity notes within. (It reminds me of chocolate cake with cherries for some reason.) The hops are also mixed in here and add there own spicy herbal character and mellow bitterness. It finishes up fairly quick, lingering for just a bit and setting up the next sip on a clean palate.
Notes: This beer drinks wonderfully and has some nice complexity but there is nothing about this beer that makes me think Marzen/Oktoberfest.

Surprisingly complex for a lagar. The rye character is interesting but could definitely be more prominent. Pretty delicious.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2009 Bottle. A bright clear amber pour with a big frothy white head , leaving some spotty lacing behind , a very nice looking glass of beer. Aroma is earthy and spicy with some nice sweet caramel , and cereal grain . Flavor is very balanced and complex for a lager , a nice mix of caramel , biscut, rye, fruit, and peppercorns , not too sweet , lightly dry , light bitterness , nice snappy sweet grain aftertaste , full mouthfeel for the style , medium carbonation gives it a lively crisp mouthfeel , I would call this very sessionable , I would drink this all day long . A very nice take on the style , and a very good brew , going to pick up some more of this today !
Nice Job Great Divide !

Brilliant copper with good, creamy, off-white head / Clean, light nose of rye, spun sugar, and bread / Medium body, sweet and moderately syrupy, smooth and creamy, good hop balance and long, sweet finish / Flavors of spun sugar, honey, violet, bread, and orange peel / Very good - a cross between a Marzen and a bock.

UNIQUE! How many other Märzen-style rye lagers are out there? (I’d love to have more to compare to this brew.) As it is, this is crisp, refreshing, subtly spicy, and doesn’t have the offensive over-hopped bitterness that everyone is pretending to like these days. Somehow this lager conveys a primitive, unpretentious authenticity that takes one back to Bayern festivals of centuries past. I fell in love with it over there on Arapahoe and miss it dearly.

12oz bottle pours amber with medium head. Smells of sweet malt. Malty with a good rye balance, light sweetness, and a medium light body almost a little creamy. Very flavorfull for a lager. Excellent beer
