2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
Great Divide makes some amazing beers but Lasso totally baffled me. I love the bottle artwork, but the inspiration behind the name and its imagery was confusing. Is this a Wild West theme that refers to the fact that this is (supposedly) a West Coast type ale? Is it just a cowboy theme for the hell of it? Beats the shit out of me. More importantly, the beer itself seemed uncharacteristically half-assed. Color was a nice, clear orange but the head was unimpressive. Aroma was faint but had good hints of spice, grass, and bread. Taste followed the nose by being spicy, grassy, bready but unfortunately that meant that the flavor was also subdued. I wanted this beer to be bigger - that doesnít necessarily mean more bitter though that would have helped. I was surprised by the lack of citrus flavor. While the low ABV is good, Iíve had too many great Session IPAís to give Lasso a pass because of that. Lastly, this ale just didnít feel quite right. To be fair it was totally inoffensive but I like IPAís to be either complex and crisp or lively and wet. In the end, Lasso was neither dry nor particularly refreshing. I still love Great Divide and I acknowledge that this beer could have been MUCH worse but itís still a damn shame.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 7/24/14
Aroma: The nose is on the lighter side, citrus (mostly grapefruit), grains, and floral notes
Appearance: This one pours a murky gold-orange color with a thin head and streaks of lace
Flavor: The flavor is mild sweetness, with a clean, light-medium hop bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly light, with a solid mouthfeel, average carbonation, and a dry finish
This is another solid Session IPA. Not my personal favorite in the style, but I can certainly see its appeal, and Iím always happy to see more in this style. As far as Iím concerned there really canít be too many (and there are already quite a number) low ABV IPAs.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a clear golden orange. Hints of citrus, lemon, honey on the nose. Medium bodied, with hoppy bitterness (especially on the back of the tongue). Caramel notes, honey, lemon zest, grapefruit, resin, and pine flavors. Not the greatest IPA, but not bad either.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at Akkurat. Almost clear deep golden liquid with a medium off-white head. Aroma of earth, floral hops, grain, citrus, tea and bread. Taste is dry and medium bitter with notes of earth, floral hops, grain, citrus and wort. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice but maybe a bit tired.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught @ The Rover. Pours golden with a frothy offwhite head that slowly dissipates while leaving some sticky lacing and trace on the glass. Smell is tiny sweet and tiny fruity with caramel, grapefruit juice, orange zest, lemon zest, moist grass, pine needles and unripe pineapple. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter, tiny fruity and tiny malty with dark bread, caramel, grapefruit juice, orange zest, lemon zest, moist grass, pine needles, unripe tropical fruits and hints of buttered biscuits and resinous wood. Mouthfeel is round, slightly astringent, slightly watery and light bodied. Finish is bitter with buttered bread, grapefruit juice, orange zest, lemon zest, moist grass and pine needles. Not too fresh but still quite drinkable...

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
The complexity was average, but I really liked the low ABV for an IPA. Good solid beer but not one to write home about.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle pours with a clear copper body that has thin gold edges and supports a light tan head. The modest aroma offers up sweet malts, a mix of fresh mango and citrus candy and then it gets into a bit of spicy to floral hops near the end of the draw. The taste delivers pleasing malt sweetened yet punchy fresh citrus hop bitterness thatís largely grapefruit and tangerine like. It then slides into light notes of floral hops, spicy earthy almost dank hops and a nice faint drying earthy tea note. This is a solid 5% brew with plenty of yummy fresh flavors, balance and harmony. Is 5% an imperial session IPA?
