LASSO is the new frontier of India Pale Ale. Brewed with a robust roundup of Columbus, Centennial and Cascade hops, its sessionable simplicity proves bigger isnít always better. But make no mistake Ė the Wild West hasnít gone mild. That same untamed IPA spirit thrives, and we reckon thisíll go down mighty fine.

Middle gold color, hazy, good head. Medium to full body, smooth texture, low alcohol heat, long palate. Very bitter, not without a slightly sweet malty background. Hoppy and slightly malty. Good, assertive, not great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Crisp light copper coloured body with a very thin, one centimetre tall just white head. Aroma of fresh hops, yeast, wort, lemons and a bit of cardboardie funk as malt. Light-bodied; Strong flavour of grassy and very perfumey hops with a kick of lemons and yeast noticeable and a hint of very light honey sweetness. Aftertaste shows only a touch of the hop bitterness, but mainly a very mild and slightly watery finish. Overall, a decent light IPA with some bitterness up front, but not enough depth or complexity to be a good beer from this style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle given to me at the brewpub in Denver, Colorado (due to it being a low-fill) on 07-June-2014 sampled at home in Washington on 14-August-2014.

The color is a hazy orange with a large white head that fades somewhat quickly. The aroma blends resin and floral hops with light malts, and the taste is slightly bitter, slightly sweet, and a touch sour; the mouthfeel fuses a slick texture, medium-light body, soft carbonation, and a slightly bitter yet fairly abrupt finish.

Nice summer beer. Has a bit of malt in the aroma. The taste is all hops. Maybe one dimensional but a good thirst quencher. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber color with a big foamy head that fades very slowly and leaves a little lacing. Aroma is surprisingly malty with stale floral hops and a little fruit. Tastes like dry stale flowers, honey, and light caramel. Not a great effort from Great Divide.

Light amber with thin white lasting head; aroma is light semi hoppy and malty; Flava is same with notes of bitter hops and seltzer; feels medium and foamy; finsiens dry but not bitter

Great Divide makes some amazing beers but Lasso totally baffled me. I love the bottle artwork, but the inspiration behind the name and its imagery was confusing. Is this a Wild West theme that refers to the fact that this is (supposedly) a West Coast type ale? Is it just a cowboy theme for the hell of it? Beats the shit out of me. More importantly, the beer itself seemed uncharacteristically half-assed. Color was a nice, clear orange but the head was unimpressive. Aroma was faint but had good hints of spice, grass, and bread. Taste followed the nose by being spicy, grassy, bready but unfortunately that meant that the flavor was also subdued. I wanted this beer to be bigger - that doesnít necessarily mean more bitter though that would have helped. I was surprised by the lack of citrus flavor. While the low ABV is good, Iíve had too many great Session IPAís to give Lasso a pass because of that. Lastly, this ale just didnít feel quite right. To be fair it was totally inoffensive but I like IPAís to be either complex and crisp or lively and wet. In the end, Lasso was neither dry nor particularly refreshing. I still love Great Divide and I acknowledge that this beer could have been MUCH worse but itís still a damn shame.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 7/24/14

Aroma: The nose is on the lighter side, citrus (mostly grapefruit), grains, and floral notes
Appearance: This one pours a murky gold-orange color with a thin head and streaks of lace
Flavor: The flavor is mild sweetness, with a clean, light-medium hop bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly light, with a solid mouthfeel, average carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: This is another solid Session IPA. Not my personal favorite in the style, but I can certainly see its appeal, and Iím always happy to see more in this style. As far as Iím concerned there really canít be too many (and there are already quite a number) low ABV IPAs.

Pours clear gold color with some foam that recedes and leaves a little lacing. Floral and citrus nose. Taste is caramel, grapefruit and light hops. Easy to drink, good session IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear golden orange. Hints of citrus, lemon, honey on the nose. Medium bodied, with hoppy bitterness (especially on the back of the tongue). Caramel notes, honey, lemon zest, grapefruit, resin, and pine flavors. Not the greatest IPA, but not bad either.
