3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
No head, clear dark amber. Aroma is bright and fruity, light hops. Taste is fluffy, fruity, mild hopping. Subtle oak flavor, of which I expected much more. A little too sweet for me, but a solid beer. Not work seeking out over the original.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Purchased a 32 oz. Growler from d’vines in Washington, DC. 2010 barleywine, aged 3 years. Fruit and caramel nose. Nice orange/amber color. Creamy, foamy head that disappears slowly after pour. First drink is bitter. Hoppy front end that dissapates quickly. Palate is smooth with continued caramel and fruit notes. Beer gets better as you continue to sip it; grows on you.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
smell spot on for a non hopped barley wine. Taste is sweet with a light hop in the end.. at first seems pretty hop forward but this fades. pretty much a nice non west coast barely wine with a slight west coast fringe. thin fading head. Body as expected.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Good but not as good as the original. It was distinctly different as well. The aroma gave hints of alcohol and sugar as well as an earthy essence. The taste was sweeter with a bit of tartness. There was a sense of wood as well and the alcohol being more prevalent. The hops were much more subdued. Dark amber and a smooth palate. Some of the sweetness lingered.

Smooth palate with a notable complexity, providing flavors of cherry, oaky earthy malt, cabernet, mild vanilla, and some figgy spirity notes at the finish.

Bottle. Poured into a tasting glass an amber orange color with a slight tan head. Swirling creates a nice little head and allows the aromas to waft a little more. Both citrus and pine emanate from this brew along with some sweet smelling notes. This, to me, is a very hop forward BW and the citrus and pine notes jump upfront followed by a transition to a malty backbone. Medium mouthfeel. Finishes with a lingering bitterness. As it warms I get some medical type notes in the flavor.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I was told that this was Old Ruffian aged on oak chips for five weeks. The color was identical to the regular ruffian, orange-brown. The head was tiny and the top of the beer looked like an oil slick. The smell was very oaky and whiskey-like. The taste was very heavy on the oak and also tasted like whiskey. I had a regular ruffian side-by-side and I felt like the oak covered up the hops too much. The beer did get better as it warmed. I was told the next batch was oaked for two weeks so I will go back and see how that one turned out.

1.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Pours foggy reddish brown. with a thin white head.A little lacing. Aroma is Oak, malt and a little fruit. Flavor is very bitter like Aspirin. Very strong bitter really kills any other flavors this beer may have. Taste more like an IPA than a Barley Wine.
I did not like this beer what so ever. I probably rated this beer higher than it should be. Would not drink this beer even if it was the only beer I had left.
