Commercial Description:
Crack open Yeti Imperial Stout’s sophisticated sibling -- Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout. Although these beers come from the same clan, they have entirely different personalities. Aging on a blend of French and toasted oak chips infuses a subtle oak and vanilla character into Yeti’s already intense chocolate, roasted coffee malt flavor and hugely assertive hop profile. Who says you can’t tame a Yeti? 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

On tap at Ølbaren, 27-APR-2009. First time on tap, and that is a success. Black with brown head. Vanilla and roasted on the nose. So smooth, so roasted, so good. Very bitter for a stout, I like that. Very creamy, I guess more than the bottle version? Fantastic beer. I should not have had it following a night of many good beers, but who could refuse this?

20 oz bomber, courtesy of my bro-in-law. Poured a black, black, black, obsidian with a small mocha head. Aroma of burnt coffee grounds, black licorice, vanilla. Flavour the same - smooth, slightly boozy, no oak coming through prominently, except as a slight vanilla component. Green hops very present. Thick, round in the mouth. Special, wonderful brew.

100th rating. 22 oz bottle. Served just below cellar temp in a snifter. Aroma is resinous hops, dark roasted malt, alcohol and wood. Black with a big thick brown head, that leaves a big lace. The flavor starts big and sweet then gets bitter, but leaves a long sweet chocolaty taste. Full bodied, thick with a dryness. This is an incredible beer, all of the flavors are there. You get everything that a great Imperial Stout has to offer mixed with a great hop profile, a nice mellow oak flavor and a warming alcohol feature. Great Divide continues to amaze me with the quality of their beer and their low retail prices.

Pours black with dark tan head. Woody aroma with piney hops, like a freshly cut Christmas tree you just spilled chocolate coffee on. Also detect coca, vanilla, espresso, dark fruit, molasses, and whiskylike alcohol. Very dense mouthfeel with bold wood flavor. Bitterness from hops and coffee mingle with dense malt and caramel. Beautiful tan lacing too. I love how they put a lot of hops in this, and the oak just adds another dimension. Absolutely delicious. :)

650mL bomber thanks to Jan at our KW group tasting, thanks Jan! Pours a nice viscous dark brown with a small mocha head. The aroma is interesting, some of the aspects of the original Yeti with a woody, almost butterscotchy overtone. A touch sharp with some cinnamon too. The flavour is the same with some good astringency defining it the whole way through, and some herbal hopping seems present. A touch of brandy in there too in the finish. Fuller mouth-feel which is good, not overly boozy but for some reason it doesn’t impress me as much as I would expect given how much I enjoyed the regular version. I wouldn’t say this version is all that more complex or impressive, maybe oak/barrel aging isn’t really my thing.

22oz. bottle This is a great stout that is pretty much available year round at some of the better beer shops. All the flavor those of us stout heads require and the oak aging does everything justice. Chocolate smooth coffe slight but not over done smack you in the face everything blends smoothly to make this stout and enjoyable drinking expierence. Worth the effort!
