JLAudio (282), Crestwood, Illinois, USA Nov 21, 2008 One of the better oak aged imperial stouts. It has a ton of bourbon aroma and flavor, but almost loses it’s complexity from the regular Yeti as the oak tends to overwhelm this slightly overly carbonated beer. It has coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, and a nice hop backbone. I wish they could raise the ABV, as it would add depth. Still, outstanding beer. puggy211 (576), cordova, Tennessee, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bomber bottle. Poured black with medium light brown head that lasted. Complex aroma of coffee and chocolate. Full body with creamy texture. Big flavor of coffee, roasted malt and sweet tones and a small alcohol bite at the finish. Very great stout ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle on multiple occasions: Papago, Jubilation, et al. While I have no problem with this stout, it has never stood out for me. Aroma is nice - coffee, dark chocolate. Flavor of the same. But I never get the roundness of the oak, the toffee implied by the thick brown head. I am as confused by its presence in the Top 50 as I am by Isabelle (less so, but still confused). Maybe the west coast has spoiled me. ajwilliams (118), , Indiana, USA Nov 20, 2008 This reminded me of Expedition Stout, with a little bit harsher palate. That was surprising considering the oak aging, but this is still a great imperial stout. I wouldn’t mind giving this a side-by-side with the normal Yeti to get a better idea of what the oak does for it. Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Nov 18, 2008 22oz bottle. Another very dark pour, dark brown head. Not quite as strong of an aroma as the regular Yeti, everything was a little more muted, but some slightly woody aroma as it warmed. Not quite as bitter as Yeti, very smooth and very good. Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA Nov 2, 2008 Bottle from Kegs & Barrels in McKinney, TX. Thanks to ericandersnavy & Bman for making the beer run. Pours a pitch black with a thick chocolate head, wow...The head itself resembled a chocolate malt. Aroma of some wood, roasted barley, chocolate. Flavor is great, coffee, chocolate, dark roast, alcohol, nice hoppy bitter. Overall, GREAT stout! OleR (2007), Oslo, Norway Nov 1, 2008 Draught@EBF 2008. Completely black colored, dense brown head. The aroma has a lots of hops up front, then roasted malts and chocolate. Notes of vanilla, wood and ash. Sweet-flavored; refined, roasted dark malts and tons of chocolate supported by a very well prononced bitterness. Notes of salty licorice, pepper and wood. Medium to full body. Malty and hop-bitter finish with chocolate notes. Great brew. MatSciGuy (627), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA Oct 31, 2008 [Bottle] Pours viscous black with a smallish burnt caramel colored head that leaves minimal lacing. Aroma is loaded with oaky vanilla and woody notes which is tough to distinguish from bourbon, significant roasted barley, a touch of chocolate, some citric hops, and some astringency. Flavor matches quite well with a nice full mouthfeel. The beer is pretty sharp, presumably from the hops, and has a strong lingering bitterness on the back end. Overall a godo beer, but I’m not quite sure how this is a top 50 beer.
