Frauditor (148), Hagerstown, Maryland, USA Mar 13, 2008 bottle from 7th street. Pours black with thin tan head. Smells like sweet coffee, oak and chocolate. Taste is very smooth. Notes of oak sit well in this beer. JEB12345 (13), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Mar 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours out thick and black, kind of like used motor oil. Small head. Aroma of chocolate alcohol. Smooth palate that reminds me of chocolate bourbon filling with hints of coffee. Hops on the finish. Complex Beer. Grade A. BelgianBeerGal (1273), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Mar 11, 2008 Draught at the GD tap room. Phenomenal impy stout. Pours inky black with a solid tan head. Aroma is solid hops in the front but follows with some subtle coffee and dark chocolate. The flavour also has a strong hops profile but also hints of bourbon, oak and vanilla. Just outstanding. JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA Mar 11, 2008 Updated: Feb 15, 2009Draught.
Black, viscous and thick, thick dark tan/brown head.
Nose is oaky and roasty, bit of a coffee presence and a smooth, vanilla oak note.
Big but smooth, roasty chocolate up front, some coffee, all with a smooth, vanilla oak character residing over the top. The richness snaps up into a dry, hoppy finish that hints of smoke. Finish is long, moderately bitter. Extremely well balanced. Great beer.
Mouthfeel is viscous, full bodied, a bit slick.
Pulls off the big hops note better than most - oak and vanilla smooth out the rough edges so that the blending of roasty and hoppy is by no means harsh. Well done. durhambeer (1186), Durham, USA Mar 10, 2008 Thick black pour with tan head. Expected notes of coffee and chocolate, oak and vanilla on both the nose and the palate. Combination of hops and toasted oak made for a more bitter finish than expected, but in a good way. Delicious, but for occasional sipping. Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Mar 9, 2008 22oz bottle-Pours pitchblack with a nice tight and full tan head. Aroma of bourbon, coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, oak and slight alcohol. Taste of this full bodied brew comes across with initially a little hops then coffee followed by bourbon and a little vanilla. The finish has all of everything mixed in rather well along with the oak. Great tasting Impy stout. dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA Mar 8, 2008 Dark dark brown with a good-sized brown head. Rich, sweet aroma of roasted malt, with dates, figs, and brandy. Woodsy and sweet flavor of malt, dark fruits, and a bit of chocolate. The oak comes through wonderfully. Really nice sweetly bitter lingering taste. Fantastic imperial stout. MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Mar 8, 2008 22 oz bomber. Pours dark as an unlit cave and thick as mud. Had a beautiful brown head. The smell was oak, chocolate and some alcohol. Taste was oak, roasted malt and chocolate. Very complex taste and texture. Mouthfeel was thick and creamy with some chalkiness at the finish. This was a very good Impy stout. I loved this soooo much. Can’t wait to have another.
