mcart034 (35), Manassas, Virginia, USA Feb 13, 2008 22 oz bottle. Poured very thick and dark with a dark tan head. Aroma is malt and vanilla. The taste is roasted coffee and bitter chocolate with hints of oak. Finished pretty dry. Slightly noticeable alcohol flavor. A very rich beer that is surprisingly easy to drink. darkninja67 (40), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Feb 13, 2008 22 oz bottle- poured dark and rich. Tasted of roasted coffee and oak. Smooth going down and easy to drink. Wonderfully balanced and overall a very good offering from Great Divide. Botnik (100), Carrollton, Texas, USA Feb 12, 2008 Updated: Sep 22, 2008This is my favorite beer, in my favorite style. Too rich to drink every day. Dark and opaque. Rich, brown head. Finish like strong coffee. gamecockbeer (2), Columbia, South Carolina, USA does not count Feb 12, 2008 Love this beer. Nice dark, deep brown/black color. Finishes with a taste of coffee. Really complex flavor (oak/coffee is what I taste the most). Nice thick head. Woody aroma. BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 11, 2008 This was amazingly smooth. Pours a murky dark, dark brown. with a rich creamy tan head, that stays around throughout the entire pour, and again with any refill. But little to no lacing, very sparse. The taste is not as complex as I had hoped but still very tasty, with lots of subtle vanilla from the French Oak immersion but a full, creamy mouth feel that reminds me a lot of a graham cracker pie crust. Nice use of bittering hops in the finish. dkingsella (84), Portland, Oregon, USA Feb 10, 2008 Updated: Feb 16, 2008Missed getting the Abyss again this year...I’ve got to mark my calendar for the ’08. Picked this one up as an alternative. Pours black with a thin brown head...not much lacing. Aroma is that of caramel, chocolate, roasted coffee. Tastes of bitter chocolate, vanilla and coffee...you don’t notice the high IBUs and alcohol at first, but after a while they become apparent. Creamy on the palate with a long bitter finish. This is a big beer...very nice. rustychiles (997), Mesa, Arizona, USA Feb 10, 2008 Bomber from Sun Devil Liquors in Mesa AZ. Pours a nice black with a thin head. Smells like Oak, Malt, Barley, Chocolate, Coffee and more. The taste is bitter chocolate and toasted barley with a nice dry finish. Very tasty, better than regular yeti. darn1207 (528), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Feb 9, 2008 Updated: Jun 23, 2008from Leon pub in tallahassee. had this a day after trying the speedway stout from alesmith -- and, in it’s own way, it lives up to billing. rating is a while after the fact: thick chocolate coffee taste. hint of vanilla. fantastic balance. need to try again... soon... Ok -- tried again soon: dark black pour with thick dark brown head. roasted coffee and hop smell. creamy vanilla and warm alcohol in the finish. even better then I remembered. K-8
