Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Feb 3, 2008 Pours like well used motor oil with a great looking dark brown one finger head. Aroma is heavenly. It is full of fruit, coffee, vanilla and sweet syrup. As good as the aroma is, the flavor surpasses it! Rich coffee, sweet molasses, vanilla, wood, just a snippet of hop, and almost everything else that is good. This stuff is an orgasm in a glass. It is smoother than Paris Hilton’s thighs, smoother than Frank Sinatra’s voice. Drinking this is like throwing down on Shaquille O’Neil, taking Johan Santana deep, intercepting Tom Brady, combined. The flavor gets on the tongue and just does not go away. If I wasn’t already married ... well, there is probably some kind of a law against that. But wow, wow, and wow. douglas88 (1555), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Feb 2, 2008 Updated: Feb 14, 2008Bomber thanks to 5000. Pours a dark brown with a nice beige/brown head. The aroma is mostly oak, with some burnt malts and vanilla. The taste is similar, fruit, smoked oak chips, chocolate, vanilla, a really creamy mouthfeel that is awesome. A great beer. Better than the original, I’m not sure, let’s just say both are amazing. marc03 (10), atlanta, Georgia, USA Jan 27, 2008 The aroma is very strong with chocolate It pours a very dark, almost oily black with a suprisingly big, long lasting head. The mouthfeel is very thick and coating. There is a lot of chocolate flavors up front with a mild coffee finish. Overall one of the best stouts I’ve had. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Jan 26, 2008 April 2006 - Compared to the standard Yeti, the alcohol is hidden much better, but the "oak agedness" adds sweetness unto itself...almost a bourbony taste to the oakiness. It’s kind of too much, actually. I’m kind of new to this whole barrel-aged thing, but I can understand the complaints that I’ve heard that it ends up overwhelming what the beer is underneath. I could see that here, but overwhelming the alcohol flavor in the regular Yeti isn’t such a bad thing. Taverner (824), San Ramon, California, USA Jan 24, 2008 Updated: Oct 6, 2008Pours dark black with a brown foamy head. Taste is smoky, oaky and smooth. You can smell the 9.5%, but you sure can’t taste it. This is such a nice smooth stout. Very nice. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jan 24, 2008 This poured black in color with a rather thin light brown head that. There were aromas of molasses, chocolate, coffee, plum and a distinct mineral edge. This is rich and smooth in the front of the mouth with a bitter chocolate & expresso finish. Nice palate weight but it doesn’t come off heavy as the hops seem to keep it light. The only thing lacking, in comparison to other Imperial Stouts, is the midpalate punch. Tilley4 (218), Huron, Tennessee, USA Jan 24, 2008 Absolutely one of the best Imperial Stouts that I’ve had the privilege to sample.
Glugs out of the bottle a midnight black with a 2 inch brown head. This really looks dark and evil...
Smells earthy (the Oak?), chocolatey, and dark. I can’t get my nose out of the glass.
The taste surpasses the smell. It is loaded with rich chocolate malts and has hints of vanilla, the oak, and coffee.
For the money, ($8.00 a bomber) I can’t think of a better Imperial Stout. This is unbelievable.... LeMunche (66), Orland Park, Illinois, USA Jan 23, 2008 Updated: Mar 20, 2008This is a solid IMP stout. Can really taste the hops. I tend to prefer the stouts where hops don’t dominate. They seem more balanced to me.
