dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA May 10, 2009 black color, respectable biege head, nicely lacy. nose is woody, roasty malty, chocolate and coffee. the flavor contains bitter coffee, choclate, oak smoke. bitter finish. a very enjoyable brew sampled at a LoSBD tasting, the sample provided by cornfield. zizzybalubba (335), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA May 7, 2009 22 oz. bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop (not sure exactly of the age on this one but I would estimate at close to a year based on the old label and purchase date, October 2008). Thick, black pour with a creamy brown head. Looks amazing. Aroma of mostly dark cocoa and coffee with a hint of bourbon. Not sure that it smells like bourbon as much as the oak and the alcohol may give that impression. The label doesn’t lie on this one; a very subtle vanilla character really makes this a different beer than Yeti. Great roasted malt flavor. Nice thick consistency that lingers on the tongue to allow you to enjoy this beer long after your initial taste. Insanely good beer. aaronhaywood (74), Kansas City, Missouri, USA May 6, 2009 The damn near perfect dark beer. Pours like used motor oil or syrup. Taste of coffee and chocolate. This beer is the milkshake of beers. This won’t be the last time I drink this. petematte46 (212), Dallas, Texas, USA May 6, 2009 black with a thick tan head. Aroma is hoppy, chocolate and coffee are also present. Hops, coffee, chocolate, toffee, and vanilla. I was expecting a tad more oak presence. Very creamy, slightly carbonated. Very nice. noompa (130), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 2, 2009 65 cl. bottle (2008) in a snifter. Pours pitch black w/ a sandy chocolate head. Leaves some lattice-like lacing. Vinous, raisiny aroma w/ toasted hazelnuts and liquorish. Velvety, full body; sweet chocolate, vanilla, dry wood and port notes. Oaky finish that signs off w/ an elegant flourish. Superb. farry (12), copenhagen, Denmark May 1, 2009 On tap at ølbaren 30 April. The widow in black. This is just lovely.Smooth and rich vanilla roasted cocoa and chocolate heavy and delicate at the same time Superb. gyllenbock (238), Stockholm, Sweden May 1, 2009 Pours thick black with a faint head that is coffee in color.
