Commercial Description:
Crack open Yeti Imperial Stout's sophisticated sibling -- Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout. Although these beers come from the same clan, they have entirely different personalities. Aging on a blend of French and toasted oak chips infuses a subtle oak and vanilla character into Yeti's already intense chocolate, roasted coffee malt flavor and hugely assertive hop profile. Who says you can't tame a Yeti? 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Bomber sized bottle. First pour yields a thick dark brown liquid that relenquishes a three finger head. The head is thick and frothy, already leaving some lacing. The body itself is so dark it looks black and I’m not even seeing any highlight areas when I hold it up to the light. Aromas are of charcoal, peat, espresso and dark chocolate. I’m also picking up just a touch of sweetness hidden between all the smokey notes. Flavor is very smokey... thick mouthfeel, alcoholic warmth. This is probably not every man’s August beer of choice... but it had been sitting and waiting for me for so long I finally decided to have a go. Anyhow, where was I? Oh, all of these flavors are superbly blended together, and while I can’t help but pucker a little due to the bitter coffee grounds taste, I can’t get enough of it, either. This is mighty fine.

Very thick almost pitch black pour with very small dark head. Big flavor of roastiness, oak, molasses, espresso and bready malt. Very appropriate and not overpowering mouthfeel.

Pour is thick engine oil black with a small dark tan head. Aroma is of sweet malt, caramel, oak, light coffee, chocolate, and a light burnt character. Can you say complex? Brew is very full bodied with a strong oak and toast character finishing with more sweet malt, toffee and strong hops right at the end. Very smooth mouthfeel and a dang good brew. With further review, I get a hint of coffee in the flavor as well. I wouldn’t mind having this brew around for a few more years to see what happens. I’ll be looking for this brew again!

Drinking this is like eating those incredible delicacies at the state fair. Something like bacon, dipped in chocolate, battered an deep fried. So many incredible flavors, each one decadently good in its own right, all put together. Fantastically good, but only in moderation. But there is actually a kind of internal moderation. Each great but overpowering flavor seems to cancel the others out so that no one overpowers the other, or you.

(Sample from December 14, 2007 Beer Club Meeting; Bomber with ice cream with weeAnaP on August 24, 2008) HUGE brown head… STILL huge! Fantastic lacing. Bubbly, looks like a wheat pancake on the stove. Oaked malt aroma with molasses. Flavor is VERY well done. Lacing follows all the way down the glass as you drink. Very warm on the tongue. Spicy finish from the alcohol. Creamy, smooth, full-flavored, round on the palate. Delicious with ice cream!
