Strong chocolate aroma with plenty of roasted malts in addition to vanilla, licorice, brown sugar, and potent piney hops. The piney hops are nicely emphasized in the flavor (I don’t remember these being so strong in the non-aged version...but I haven’t tried that beer since it was called "Maverick Imperial Stout"). In that regard, this reminds me of Three Floyds Alpha Klaus, though the maltiness is still stronger here. A touch of grapefruit and caramel are evident as well. Oak flavors were surprisingly subtle. Incredibly smooth, creamy body. Delicious. Thanks John (JCW) for the sample! NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 23, 2005 Roasted baker’s choclate aroma with pungent hop notes. It’s not possible to look any stoutier than this. Head can be huge if you want it to be and it lasts and lasts. Bitterness is all i can taste initially...more bitter choclate in the middle with just a flash of vanilla...then a hugely bitter finish. This tastes more bitter than the regular Yeti..which I had the day before so I think I can trust my memory on this one.
All the elelments, but flavor are homeruns. I think it is overwhelmed by the hops. zach8270 (2152), Henrietta, New York, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 28, 2005 Updated: Dec 13, 2008[bottle - 22 oz] Dark black pour with a very nice tan head. Rich and flavorful aroma of malt, oak, vanilla, caramel and some smoke. Very intense flavor right from the start. The flavor it absorbed from the oak aging was very apparent at the beginning, with the sweet malty taste from the stout right behind it. The oak aging really seemed to mellow the beer and make it smooth and very drinkable. The flavor is a little bit in your face at first, but after that, it’s a wonderful beer. jsquire (2132), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 5, 2007 This is a very dark, very viscous liquid, with a foamy dark brown head that recedes to a whisp and leaves sticky lace. The nose is the sticky sweet malt syrup, molassess, vanilla and wood that you expect from a good, barrel aged beer. Very creamy mouthfeel, with just the right amount of carbonation. Tons of creamy caramel sweetness, melted toffee, vanilla, wood, light chocolate, and a light grassy hop note. I didn’t get the coffee out of this one. More of an oak, vanilla, chocolate finish. This is a nice use of wood in a beer. OleR (2128), Oslo, Norway

The aroma has a lots of hops up front, then roasted malts and chocolate. Notes of vanilla, wood and ash. Sweet-flavored; refined, roasted dark malts and tons of chocolate supported by a very well prononced bitterness. Notes of salty licorice, pepper and wood. Medium to full body. Malty and hop-bitter finish with chocolate notes. Great brew. bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark

Complex aroma of creamy roasted malt along with notes of raisins, plums, tobacco, and a slight hint of alcohol. flavour is very noticeably alcoholic with heavy chocolate malts. creamy body. long roasty bitter finish. It’s very flavourful but I think the alcohol is a bit too overwhelming. I’d like to give the original Yeti a try. SSSteve (2108), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
