A big chocolate, smoke, and whiskey aroma. The appearance was pitch black with a large tan head. The flavor was sweet chocolate, whiskey, raisins, roasted malts, coffee. The whiskey flavor isnt overpowering and the alcohol is hidden well. A freaking gem right here! ucusty (1922), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

This dark brown ale poured with a creamy brown head. It is full-bodied with a strong smoky matt flavor and a noticeable alcohol kick at the end. This is a very well-crafted brew that is a pleasure to drink. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA

Inky black pour with a deep brown head. Heady chocolate and cocoa nose, some vanilla and oak notes. This is one beer that really benefits from the oak aging! Lovely, thick syrupy body, silky mouthfeel. Flavors are very complex, how can something so bitter be so sweet? Resiny pine hoppiness over a roasted coffee and bitter chocolate base. Notes of vanilla, bourbon and oak. Beautiful bitter chocolate finish, and all of the flavors mentioned abouve fade away slowly. Simply amazing. frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 8, 2006 Despite an additional hit of vanilla, this is similar in looks and aromas to the base <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/great-divide-yet so I won’t repeat myself. I did not find the oak to impart any wooden notes to the beer but it certainly succeeded in mellowing it. While the finish of the original was found to be bittersweet, here the rough edges are whittled down to smooth and thick chocolatey sweetness. I had a bomber of each version one day apart and I can’t say that I liked one better than the other... each is excellent in its own right. To oversimplify, the difference is that aging gives Yeti a sweeter lean.

Taste is rich with choclate, coffee, with some nutmeg and cinnamon on side. Body was a bit thin and unenviting. kappldav123 (1901), Markkleeberg, Germany

The beer in the glass also, very dark, nice brown head. Aroma very intense - dry and malty, alcoholic, a little bit like tabacco. The beer starts the same, strong, malty, a little not of chocolate. To the end the beer becomes really bitter, too much for my taste. Remains on the tongue very long. Not my favorite beer!
